Instead of 'the favour of a reply...' You can also say 'A reply is requested by July 7, 2007.'

Im definitelty all for this wording, especially if you're not inviting children since it tells people that they only have two seats without blatantly stating that their kids can't come.

The only thing with this wording is what if you have a person you are inviting alone? Most people on our guestlist will get a guest invite if they're with someone or if they will not know anyone there. But we have a couple of people that are never really with a significant other and will know a ton of people at the wedding, so we might just invite them alone.

I don't see the problem. When I'm going alone, I write:

Ms. Jane Doe
will attend

With a yet-to-be-determined guest:

Ms. Jane Doe & Guest
will attend

with my fiance

Ms. Jane Doe and Mr. John Smith
will attend

ETA - exactly who is invited will be on the inner envelope... People will know by that if they are invited alone or not. If you're really worried they won't figure that out, then use one of the other suggestions.

Sorry, what I meant was that it says ___ seatS (plural) have been reserved. So when there is just one person, the bride & groom would write in 1 and then it'd say '1 seats'. The will attend it fine.
