Danielle got a call this morning from Tabletop Design Selections Inc. They said that we won the drawing that was held at the vendor showcase the other night.
The woman she spoke to told her that we have to go there monday evening to claim our prize. The 3 prizes that we won are 40% off on any of there products, a Camera and 100 rolls of film, and a trip to Hawaii, Bahamas, Florida or Vegas.
We are going monday evening to see what its all about. The woman says we do not have to buy anything or sign up for anything and we get the prizes if we just go there and listen to what they have to say.
Do you think this is legit?

What kind of a company is Tabletop? What do they sell?

its a marketing ploy - they do stuff like that all the time. They''ll try to hard sell you stuff once you''re there, but if you can say NO about a million times, you can get your gifts and walk away.
The trips are VERY restricted - only certain dates you can travel, and you have to submit more than one date and see what they give you. They make it almost impossible to use.
edited to say, I never experienced the Tabletop pitch, just something similiar.
And I think just about everyone 'wins'.

Leave your credit card at home. It is just a marketing scheme to get you in to convince you to buy their products. Tell them you have a wedding to pay for and you do not need anything right now, but you will take your prize. DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING, IF YOU WIN SOMETHING ITS FREE
Let us know how it goes. Did you even enter any contest???

Didn''t we all win something similar to this back when we were planning? There has been post on this before and the conclusion was that it was a SCAM. They just want you to purchase their products.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks after I went to a bridal showcase at one of the hotels.
I had to come down to get my gifts, AND my DH was required to be with me...
That really made me suspicious. I also had to make an APPOINTMENT. Weird..
SCAM!!!

I think it is a scam too. I cant tell you how many people have called to say that I won something. If you are really into going, GOOD LUCK!!!!! Like someone said...leave your checkbook, and credit cards home. Like Shamma said, if you have to pay for something..it is NOT free.

my friend went to this and did not buy anything and the guy there was super rude and mean. he yelled at her for wasting 'his' time. she did get the free tickets but there are alot of restrictions when you can travel. quite honestly, dont waste your time!

I know....I didnt, lol....Danielle filled this out. Supposedly it was part of the registration. She filled out that card, and then one for a free makeover, and one for the florist that we have an appointment with on wednesday.
So I guess I know everyones opinions on this, and basically I guess we shouldnt waste our times....I will copy and paste this thread for Danielle to see....and see what she wants to do. I thought and still think it is a scam.....
Thanks everyone Scott

No problem Scott. I am an evil little girl when I go to these things.... I always use a fake name. I know it sounds childish, but it is easy to figure out what's ligit that way.

We are already getting bombed with emails, phone calls and regualar mails from all vendors.
When we were walking around some guy from a dj comes over to us and starts to tell us hus sales pitch, I stopped him in the middle and said...you already spoke to us 5 minutes ago. After we walked away, Danielle said to me that I was rude....I said I wasnt trying to be rude....I just didnt want to have to sit through his bullsh*t speach again....It was the same one he said 5 minutes before....

We 'won' a prize (free hotel stay at Orlando/Miami/Cancun/Vegas) and airline coupons from Royal Prestige (a cookware company). All we had to do was go to their seminar - no obligation to buy. So we went. Sat through the stupid hour long sales pitch with 3 other couples. The vacation is through V.I.P. Vacations and I found out later from a friend that if you go on the vacation you have to sit through a timeshare seminar to get the free hotel stay. HOwever I just read the terms and conditions and it doesnt say it, so I don''t know where the catch is.
My advice is if you want a free vacation, don''t mind sitting through a boring infomercial, you''re good with pushy sales people then go. We told the guy 'it seems great (it did actually) but we're paying for our wedding ourselves and we cannot afford this. They don't even sell the peices separately, if they did I would have at least bought 1 thing because it did seem kinda neat to have in the kitchen. Nope. Had to buy the '6 piece' starter kit (and 3 of those pieces were the tops to the pots so it's really just 3 pots!) Tell them that if they start to get pushy. They can''t make you buy anything and if they promise the free stuff then you should get it anyway. Be firm, if they see any sort of waivering they will zero in on that!
Oh I saw the same cookware on ebay a week later for 60% off the price! LOL
ps: one couple next to us- the bride was really naive - she bought the pitch hook line and sinker. I think he could have sold her the Brooklyn Bridge and she would have signed on the dotted line....!

Well Danielle read this thread, so hopefully she will see its a scam and not make me go....I really dont want to waste our time and sit thorugh this. We are so busy this week anyway. Tuesday we are meeting with the Rabbi and Wednesday with a Florist.
