PLEASE READ: Can we all search before making repeated posts? It would make the boards a better research tool for us all.

I've been on LI weddings since July of 04 and I've noticed a definite change in recent months.

Last summer the 04 and 05 ladies would post ONE post about a topic. The posts were very useful because instead of opinions/research etc. on a certain topic being spread out over several posts the collective experience and A LOT of info was on one post.

Lately, I've been noticing identical posts for the exact same vendor, topic, etc. on THE SAME DAY. That makes us look lazy. We are not taking the time to search and or asking others to bump posts for us. One long post is better than 16 identical ones.

When researching a vendor, topic, etc. please try to do a search first... at least in the past week.

For example, today, alone, I saw at least two new posts about the exact same photographer. I booked that photographer but myself, and other brides, can't answer a new post asking the same question multiple times during the same day. Meanwhile, there is a 13 page thread on that photographer that dates back over a year. That thread has a lot of info on it. I bumped it. It took me no more than 5 minutes to search for it.

Can we all promise to search a bit first?

Sorry so long just trying to keep the board better organized and helpful to us all.

Thank you for posting this!! I have only been around since Jan 05 and have read numerous posts about the same thing and thought 'Doesn't anyone use the search function?'

I guess I'm alone here - but numerous posts don't really bother me. I just skip them -

Since I booked my photographer, I don't read the photographer posts.

Personally - I dont usually have the patience to sit here and sift through old posts to find what I'm looking for. I just post it - the girls are so quick and informative with their replies. For me, that s what makes LIW effective.

Yeah, I agree too. Plus old posts don't always have the most up-to-date info. But search function is a useful tool, I use it all the time.

I also agree that searching is not flawless.

I would suggest to Ron and Liz that we be able to search per board.

(example: If Isearchinig something on the '07 board and I know i saw a post that I want to read again or bump.... I don't want to have to look through the '05, 06, and BHB etc post until i see the one posted on the '07 board.)

Does this make sense.

Basically the searches should be per board.

Basically, to search a SPECIFIC board, select that board from the drop down menu titled 'Search Forum'...it works great.

So I check my hotmail account and see all of these (about 26) 'Reply to' from LIW and I'm like... HUH? I'm never on there anymore? Been married for 6 months... working on new house and really, really working on getting preggos as DH and I aren't getting any younger.

You ladies are too funny to bump my original thread. Didn't realize I wrote such a 'Classic'

I have 2 points to make. ONE, I agree that it can get annoying to have to read the same topics over & over, but I think that if you have a specific question that you would like answered, it is just more practical to ask it on a new post. TWO, I think if anyone gets 'annoyed' having to look over duplicate posts/threads, it would just be easier to skim passed them, rather than start a new thread about how it is such a bother. Doesn't it take more effort to start a new thread topic, than to just look past it. I think if it was myself that was duplicating these posts on different boards, I would feel so embarassed that there is now a thread that is saying how annoying I am. Maybe this person doesn't understand how the site works. I think it's much more polite to FM the girl & tell her how to navigate, rather than start a 'cat fight' & have others laughing at how funny it is. I know I wouldn't ever want to come back to a website that I was so excited about to help me plan my wedding.
I think it's easy to think of LIWeddings as a ChatRoom rather than what it is intended to be.......A great website where past, present, & future brides can go for info on vendors/experiences/tips/ideas. NOT for making people feel stupid that their mistakes are annoying. I hope this doesn't make anyone upset, but I feel like everyone else voices their opinion, why not mine?
THAT BEING SAID......I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS THE PLANNING OF THEIR WEDDING! LET'S ENCOURAGE & INSPIRE EACH OTHER, LADIES!!!!!

This is very true, there are times I want to shout at people 'just do a search!!' I have done so on many occasions!!

The other thing that gets annoying once in a while is the reposting on numerous boards. Sometimes people will have responses and yet repost again elsewhere anyway!! Most of us do check the BHB board, so it's best to just post there first!


Yup - I am definitely guilty of doing that!!!

I did it for a few reasons - before I was at 1000 posts, it was an opportunity to up my number AND I have my T-shirt and proud of EVERY repost I did...

ALSO - I got different answers in different forums.... And I thought that was cool.

If someone mentioned it was a repost, I shamelessly said - YUP! That's me - I live dangerously here on LIW!!!

And watch out ladies...

I'll do it again... Today LIW - tomorrow, the WORLD

OMG it's not even the fact that people cross post on every single board that bothers me. It's the fact that they re-post and re-cross-post on every single board! That drives me nuts...why are you re-posting the same question on every board? Why don't you go back to your original post and read the responses?

i've posted in more than one area. my topic was on babies and hospitals and IMO is very important to me. i posted on 'parents' or something like it and noticed there was VERY little traffic and decided to post in BHB. same with LIF. hey.. if there's an inkling of a chance that one person will answer on BHB or '06 or '07 or where ever rather than parents then my task is a success!
