Please read - retroverted uterus

Please read - retroverted uterus

My Dr. told me I have a retroverted uterus. She told me it is nothing to be worried about, but still I am worried.
Does anybody on here have one?
I searched online and I found it can be associated with endometriosis or PID. What is PID?

PID is pelvic inflammatory disease.

I know a girl with an inverted uterus and she said that sex is painful for her.

I also saw online is could cause pain during sex which it doesn't for me.
Is there anything else I should be worried about?

my uterus is tilted, if that is like it...says getting pregnant can be difficult, but not a lot...and yes, sex CAN be painful at times.

Hmmm ... let me check with a girlfriend who had some pelvic/uterine condition (honestly I do not remember but it was discovered during her first pregnancy and while Miss Ella was a month early she is fine & I just found out my friends was preggers at my wedding & is due in December!).

Re: Please read - retroverted uterus

What a cute baby!

I feel a little better now... I found this on WebMD:

The medical term for a tipped uterus is 'retroverted' (tilted backward) or 'anteverted' (tilted forward). Neither position really affects fertility.

Most women have a slightly anteverted uterus that is flexed toward the bladder; about one in four or five women have a retroverted uterus, tilted toward the spine. Neither uterine position would, in and of itself, interfere with fertility.

Some women may have a retroverted uterus associated with endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease. In both cases, scar tissue could interfere with the normal movement of the egg through the fallopian tubes to the uterus, thus decreasing the chance of getting pregnant by preventing the egg from reaching the sperm.

It doesn't affect fertility but I do think it can affect you in the later months of your pregnancy. I know my sister's friend had a tilted uterus and had minor problems late in her pregnancy, but nothing to be worried about. She delivered a beautiful, healthy boy and she too is healthy.

PID is an acronym for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. It can be caused by untreated STDs.

Did you have any symptoms...is that why you went to the gyno...or did they just find that on a regular exam.

Regular exam. She just said all cheerful 'You have a retroverted uterus!' I was like 'WHAT!!!!!!'
It was with the nurse practicioner.
My regular Dr. never said anything to me.

I have no pain/problems at all.

I used to have very heavy and very BAD periods when I was youngs, but since I started the pill at 17 that has gotten much better.

Stuff that like boggles my mind ... if you've been on the pill since 17, you have been seeing a gyn since then ... and now they notice?

I saw the same lady the whole time. This is my first time seeing someone different (the nurse practicioner). I guess if it was a big deal my dr. would have told me?

I'm assuming that since nobody ever told you, that nobody ever thought it was important enough to mention to you. And I also think that the cheerfulness of the NPs news should bring you some consolation. The cheerfulness bothers me nontheless. People in the health field get so used to seeing these things and reporting medical news to patients, that they sometimes forget that you want to know what's going on with your body.

My father's doctor cheerfully screamed from another room (while he was with another patient), 'By the way Tom, I forgot to mention that your cancer test results came back positive!' I'm not even joking.

But, I digress. I seriously don't think you have anything to worry about. I now wonder if I have a tilted uterus too though. I certainly have the painful sex syndrome. (Hello announcing my personal problems online.) Gotta go. Rambling.

Hopefully your dr. would have told you previously if it was something to be concerned about. Did she tell you exactly what it was or did she just act blase about it?

When I asked her what it was she said it is rare.. but not to worry. She didn't say anything else. It is the crazy mind of mine that got me thinking and worrying.

Dr's pi$$ me off. You would think with as much money as they charge that the least they could do is take the time to explain a diagnosis. Thank God for WebMD!!!! I am glad that it is not a serious condition. I am just sorry that you had to worry about it.

Re: Please read - retroverted uterus

Julz, the same thing happened to me - for 10 years no doctor ever said anything, then recently a new doctor sprung the retroverted uterus thing on me. I freaked out...but he assured me it was just like being left handed, and shouldn't affect fertility or anything else. If you had endometriosis or PID, you probably would have had pain or other symptons by now.

Re: Please read - retroverted uterus

Julz -- I have the 'anteverted' uterus. I was at the gyno a few months ago for my checkup, and she said to the NP who was in the room, 'patient has an anteverted uterus' and i was like 'hello? patient has WHAT?? come again?!?!?!?!?!' i also have seen my doc many times before!!!

She said 'Don't worry, Lori. It's normal' SO what did i do? Ran home and went to WebMD, just like you LOL

As the others said, if it was not mentioned it must not be a big deal, especially since this was 'discovered' during your yearly exam and not due to a specific problem.
