Please recommend a weekend destination wedding location.

Please recommend a weekend destination wedding location.

So my sister got engaged last month. She is looking to do a weekend destination wedding within 3 hours drive of NYC sometime in Oct/ Nov of this year. It doesn't have to be a catering hall. It could be a bed and breakfast, restuarant, or ski resort. It has to hold up to 80 people with room and board.
She is looking at the Poconos and also along the waterfront of CT but that is pricey. The east end of LI is WAY out of her price range for. A room in the north fork is over $300 per night.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats to your sister!

I would say.... try Newport, RI
Newport Info
Look around on that site. There are a ton of beautiful places to get married. I wanted to do that but my FILs hated the idea.

If not... PA is good too!

GL!

Thank you for the recommendation on Newport. I will have her look into it.
Any specific location in PA? She would like someplace with a lake.

I showed her this website and we both loved it but it's out of her price range at almost $200 per person.

any other suggestions?

Oct/Nov should be cheaper on Eastern LI, but it's never a bargain.
What about the Jersey Shore? Delaware?
Poconos is not a bad idea at all...or the Catskills.
Bear Mountain?
Northern CT?
There are lots of nice places that time of year.

I went to a destination wedding in Cape May in the fall, it was gorgeous and as a guest was not bad at all cost wise.
The wedding was at the Hotel Alcott, absolutely gorgeous!

What about Mystic, CT?
Saratoga?

what about upstate NY? There are some beautiful places along the Hudson River. FH and I went to a beautiful place in Rye, NY for a baptismal reception...I honestly have no clue what it's called, but it was really nice, a hotel (not a chain hotel) with catering space...the food was awesome!

I am currently living in PA so I keep getting adds for Peddlers Village in the Pocono's. It is a small village with hotels, restaurants ans shopping. I've been there, but not for any specific event. The adds for the weddings I get in the mail look great though,

The website is:

Tell her to go look at skytop in the poconos. Its GORGEOUS, and will be great for pics too and plenty of room for guests to stay there.

The property is huge and the whole area around there is called skytop. Its nice bc the entrance is off the road but then you drive past a lake which is on their property to get to the Lodge which looks like a mansion. The wedding would take place there...everytime ive stayed there, there was a wedding going on and saw the room they have weddings. Plus they have alot of areas to take pics with lots of grass & gardens and other scenery, skytop is 5,500 acres. Also further down they have an inn for guests and also cottages throughout their property but they can also stay at the lodge.

In the winter they have ice skating ring, of course theres skiing and lots of winter activities and on weekends they have different themes related to winter or christmas holiday. Also if guests will stay there for a few days theres activities for them to do. Theres also a golf course on their property, spa, great restaurants and much more.

If you want more info about the place, feel free to fm me, ive stayed at skytop 3x.

Here is a link to their site, and you'll see on the top right they have a section for weddings. They actually have 10 packages available to choose from, and on the site it shows what each package includes, all the food included, price, tax and everything

also call for rates if shes having her wedding there. The prices they have on the site will be different than what you will get. If she is having about 80 guests then they will give her a big discount for having so many of her guests stay there so keep that in mind. When we go its usually a big group so definitely ask what they can do for you. Also breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the price per night.

yeah their wedding packages are a great price, very reasonable. Definitely have her call to find out how much of a deal she can get for guests to stay overnight. BUT also keep in mind that the cottages can be about 2 bedrooms so you can have 2 couples stay in 1 cottage or a family or friends whatever lol

I don't think all 80 guests will be spending the night. If it's only 3 hours from NYC, most ppl will drive there for the wedding and come home.

oh, I wish I have more vacation time after my own wedding. I wouldn't mind spending a few days there.

I was going to recommend this place as well.

Also, the ski resort at Hunter just built a brand new hotel, the Kaatskill Mountain Club and it's beautiful. Here's the link:

Its less than 3 hours, it never took us that long to get to the poconos. We also go to the poconos alot bc dh's family has a house there, so we go there for the weekend sometimes. Takes 2 hours and MANY times we've done it in an hour and a half
