Please Recommend Ceremony Music and what is price?

Please Recommend Ceremony Music and what is price?

I have a band and they have offered to play the piano for my ceremony but I have always dreamed of having strings when I went down the aisle. it was probably the only thing that I ever really really wanted. I just need to see if I can afford it. Please let me know and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I am in the same boat. I found a violinist that charges $300 -- I need to find her card and I will post her info. Also, I would check with Juilliard. If you contact their career services dept they will tell you where you can post your 'job' and then set up an audition. I have to figure that students there would sound pretty good and be cheaper than a pro. HTH

My friend shared a great secret. She told me to get musicians from Julliard. They are probably the cheapest musicians you can get and are super talented.

Wow, thanks for the tips guys! I posted this same question on vendors helping brides and was getting quotes close to 1,000. Of course the quartets that quoted me sounded fabulous, but I think it might be too much my budget. If you want their info, check the vendors helping brides forum -my post is called ceremony and coctail hour music.

I was actually looking into a quartet for my wedding (about $1200 is what I was told by my future brother-in-law.) I asked him b/c he is very into music. He plays the piano like mozart or something he is amazing (if anyone needs a piano player for their wedding FM me lol)... **had to plug him--he's GREAT!!**
But about strings, he told me he knows of several aquaintances of his that play weddings (string quartets or just violinists) from the Manhattan School of Music. That's where my string quartet went to college or is currently attending.
He told me that looking for someone in that school or a state music school MAY be cheaper than some of the more expensive schools like Julliard because the talent is the same they just did not have the tuition money to go to Julliard which is a very expensive school.
He also did tell me that when it comes to music... especially instrumental that most of the time you have to pay good money to get excellent musicians. Not to say you need to go bankrupt but the average price should be around 1500 dollars for a quartet (maybe a little less like mine is 1200) but if you are getting quotes at like 400 bucks for a quartet it makes me nervous as to what the quality of music will sound like. There's nothing worse then when violins sound like dying cats or Yoko Ono singing! Make sure you listen to them first, they should schedule a little trial play for you but I definitely recommend looking into the Manhattan School of Music or even Potsdam (that's where my future BIL went). Just b/c someone doesn't have the money to go to Julliard doesn't mean they don't sound amazing and maybe you can get a bit of a deal!! It's something to look into as an alternative! GOOD LUCK!!!

I used Capriccio Ensemble and got a quartet (violin, cello, piano, soprano) for around $1000. They were really fantastic

Although the musicians may be less expensive than 'pros' I would be concerned that the experience level in working weddings may be less. Just a thought.

Have you considered having recorded string music playing for the ceremony instead? It would be cheaper than the 'real thing' but if set up correctly can still sound just as full.

We had someone from the band act as a 'dj' during our ceremony and they played song selections that we had given them on cd beforehand. That way we had the songs we wanted to hear, played by the London Symphony Orchestra
It was only an additional $150 for the equipment, speakers, set up and playing.

just a thought..

Re: Please Recommend Ceremony Music and what is price?

Problem is that I already have a band and that is costing a pretty penny. I hate the idea of spending another 1k on music.
My band will give me a pianist, but since it is outside (hopefully) i wanted strings. I just called the band and they said they could work in a flute. so maybe that won't be so bad. Flute and Piano. I really did want strings but how can i rationalize that? anyone??

Is it the actual string players you want or the sound of the strings? A good keyboard should be able to play string sounds and along with the flute it should be really nice. I did that for my ceremony with my band.
