Just a couple of things...
We will walk side by side hand in hand...forever.
Jane [Marie] Doe and John [Mark] Smith together with [our/their] parents request the pleasure of your company at [our/their] wedding Sunday, the third of August two thousand and eight at two forty-five in the afternoon
Chateau Briand 440 Old Country Road Carle Place, New York
Reception immediately following
1. Are you having a formal or informal wedding? If formal, change the invitation text to the third person. If informal, use 'our/we.' Alternatives are indicated in brackets. But even in the latter case, remove 'we' after 'our parents;' move the reference to parents after the couple's names.
2. When inserting your and FH's names, either both of you should use your middle names or neither should use it.
3. Because your wedding is at the reception hall, use 'pleasure of your company,' not 'honour of your presence.' The latter is reserved for when the ceremony takes place in a house of religion.
4. Don't capitalize the year. Don't use 'on' before the date. Don't put a period after 'afternoon.' Only capitalize the first word on the line about the reception.
5. Don't specify 'Adult' reception. Those who are invited should be specified on the inner envelope. If you are not using an inner envelope, specify who is invited on the outer envelope.
Good luck and please post your final print out!

ITA with everything except for #5, people will ignore what the envelope says-this happened to a friend of mine who didnt put adult reception and they had to call and tell about 10 people that their children werent invited.
I think as long as the Adult Reception is small on the invitation you will be ok

maybe let everyone know by word of mouth that it is an adult only reception. I would stick with writing the names of the invited on the envelope and if some reply with kids, just call them to let them know.

I agree with all of your changes except for the 'pleasure of your company' -- that sounds really awkward and I've never seen it done before.
I don't think 'honor of your presence' = place of worship. I've seen things that referenced god or holy matrimony etc that have religious undertones but I don't think honor of your presence signals that it's at a house of worship
just my opinion
As for the 'adult reception' it's not correct ettiquette but neither is bringing extra guests when you shouldn't. I can understnad why she might feel she needs to put that. At least she's not writing 'no kids allowed'

ITA I would change the honour to honor instead

My ceremony is on-site and I used a similar format...but I used 'honour of your presence'. Also I added both mine and fh parents names.
Finally I am considering labeling outer and inner envelopes with 'Mr. Jane Doe and Guest' etc. What do you think of this?

Sorry, 'honour of your presence' is indeed reserved for houses of religion and 'pleasure of your company' is for non-religious sites.
The guests really should glean who's invited and who's not from the inner envelope (or outer, if not using) without specifying adult reception. Yes, a guest can ignore it or not understand, but honestly, either doing it the 'right' way or specifiying 'adult reception' it may lead to an awkward situation for the couple.
If you do it the 'right' way, they may write in folks you don't want on the response card. Result: awkward conversation between you and them.
If you specify 'adult reception' on the invitation, they'll question your not inviting kids. Result: awkward conversation between you and them.

I would leave out 'adult' reception I know what you're going for but some might read it another way and wonder exactly what kind of reception you're having

Re: Please reread the wording to my invitations for corrections before I print it...
IMO if there is going to be a priest, deacon, pastor or someone of religous background performing the ceremony and if there will be a blessing of the vows or refrences to god, jesus and or holy spirit etc.. there for makes it a religous ceremony and Honour of your presence is more then OK
I too am getting married at reception site and don't think I am comfortable using 'Pleasure of your company' on my wedding invitation.
Whether it is right wrong or indifferent it does not matter to me. I am doing what I am comfortable with and to me although it may be proper 'Pleasure of your company' sounds so informal for such a formal occassion.
You have to do what you want! It's your day it only happens once and sometimes you just have to play by your own rules.
ANd if you put Adult Reception to follow sure there very well maybe some 'uncomfortable conversations' But too me it would be more uncomfortable to have the conversation about why Jane and John Doe thought it was OK to bring their 2 year old.
Most people understand from the invite who is invited but others might say hey it's so and so she loves my son she won't mind blah blah blah and think that it is OK.
In my case I was very clear when talking to everyone that the only children invited are my own and my 2 nieces who are the flower girls.
This is JMO I have always done things the 'wrong way' so to speak I don't get wrapped up in society's idea of perfect or proper. Society doesn't pay my bills or livemy life I do. And at the end of the day you have to do what is best for you. Good Luck

I see no problem with 'adult' reception. I did it on mine that way no one can say 'I didn't know I couldn't bring little Joey'.
