I went to the dermatologist last night to get a full body look over for moles, etc.
Well, I have had this discoloration on my shoulder for years. I always thought it was just pigmentation. So the Dr. said she wanted to biopsy it to rule out cancer or schleoderma.
Well, I went on the internet today and looked up schleoderma and now I am horrified. Its a deadly disease with no cure..................
Please say I prayer its not that, I am so scared now!

it's probably nothing. They biopsy EVERYTHING even if they KNOW it isn't anything harmful. They're just playing it safe, most likely.

my sister has schleoderma and she is living a perfectly normal life, altho it can b serious u would never even know she has it except for the bumps on her skin, it looks more like cellulite..in extreme cases it can b deadly but u have had ur mark for years and it has been fine...has it gotten bigger at all? wait till u talk to the doc best of luck

Just know that it is common practice for derms to biopsy everything.

The best advice I have is not to panic. I personally know what you are going through adn the waiting game was torture. Try to keep yourself busy and surrounded by people. I spent the waiting time withdrawn and it caused me to speculate wayyyyyyyy too much.

My mom has had a dozen or so of these and they've all come back fine. It's a precaution. Try not to worry about it too much - keep yourself busy until the results come back.

think about it, if you had it for years it is not cancer or anything unless it started changing colors or size etc.... good luck I know it is hard not to panic but for now just stay calm

Thank you all sooooo much!
What a weekend I had. I had my godson's christening and I tried not to worry, but did. I still had a good time for the most part though.
Anyway, I called the Dr. today. She said I misunderstood her. She does not think its cancer or schlerodema. She just wants to 100% rule them out. She thinks its hyperpigmentation..
Thank you all for keeping me in your prayers, please continue to, we still have to get the biopsy results back. Thanks so much, you girls are the BEST and really eased my mind.

I am so sorry your sister has this but am so happy she is doing well. You read the internet and get horrified you know.
Well, my Dr. does not think I have it.
