Please tell me not to KILL my co-worker... UPDATED
As you may know, I've been trying to keep the parents at my school from finding out about my pregnancy till the end of the school year.Well, a co-worker of mine (who has known for at least 2 months that I want to get through the year without discussing it) for some bizarre reason told her class (23 first graders) that I was pg yesterday.
I am so angry!!! I had kids asking me if I 'had a baby in my belly' yesterday, and my response was 'What makes you say that?'. When they answered 'Mrs. X told us!', it was all I could do to not track her down and slap her silly.
WHY would a friend do this???

I would definitely say something! I hate when people do that, besides the fact that you told her not to say anything it's YOUR news to share!!!!!I wouldn't worry about your students parents your going to be finishing the school year right, so what could they have to complain about

Re: Please tell me not to KILL my co-worker...
Honestly I would tell the principle since he is one of the people that this will effect. I remember saying that this needed to be kept quiet to avoid trouble with upcoming student's parents. Then I would tell her that you are VERY upset since she has put you in an awful situation and that is just plain unfair.

Re: Please tell me not to KILL my co-worker...
My problem is that I don't know how to confront this girl. I am afraid that I will be nasty or have an attitude, and I don't want to come across that way. I just want to know what on Earth posessed her to say anything.I will let my principal know that the cat is out of the bag on Monday.
Stacey, it's not my class this year I'm concerned about. It's just that when the parents of incoming kindergarteners catch wind (and they probably already have), my principal will be deluged by letters and phone calls from parents who don't want their children to be in a class with a teacher who will be out on maternity leave.
My principal is retiring this year, and I wanted her to be able to leave in peace, and not have to deal with this.

I would be so upset by that. She had no right to do that. I would have had to tell her something. Try to do it when you could calmly tell her how you feel.

Re: Please tell me not to KILL my co-worker...
It would have been nice if your co-worker had confronted you before announcing it to her class. I would step her aside and tell her how you feell about the situation. Im sure she didnt mean it in a bad way, but it would have been nice to ask before rambling her mouth

Re: Please tell me not to KILL my co-worker...
I'm so sorry she did this! I agree to talk to the principal about your intentions and to move on as to how to deal with next year's class and parents. As for this 'friend' who did this, you have to confront her, to find out exactly why she did it. It doesn't make any sense.

Ugh, Jenn...I can feel your stress...some people just don't think!
I'm so sorry that you even have to deal with this. I hope you can get it under control w/o too much backlash.

Oh Jen, what a biotch!!! I don't know why people do the things they do. I'm sorry she was so inconsiderate and blabbed to the whole class!! Definitely talk to her, and if you come off with an attitude, too da** bad -- she deserves it after violating your trust!!!
Don't let it stress you too much, she's not worth it!!! Lima Bean needs a calm/stress free environment (now I should listen to my own advice)!!!

Re: Please tell me not to KILL my co-worker...
UUUUGH!
People just don't think sometimes! She probably did not give one thought to how the news would make some people react. I'm so sorry. Luckily, your principle will probably not stress much about the deluge of letters since she is retiring & will not have to deal with the issue in Sept!
It'll be ok, I'm sure. Let us know what happened.
Debby's right, don't stress about this!
