Please Vote - Centerpiece Samples from Flower Michele

Original post by LauraPete

Let me start off by saying that I am very selective with who I shout rave reviews about so I have to take a minute to give some serious thanks to John and Michelle at Flower Michele. They are by far the nicest, most laid back people to work with of any vendor I met and they have the patience of SAINTS to spend over 3 HOURS with me today reworking samples and helping me take pics. My sister and cousin used them in the past so I had no doubts they were good but it is sooooo important to work with someone that enjoys what they do and takes the time to get to know what you really want. I expressed concern over the phone to Michelle before the initial consult that I needed to fill the large ballroom on a small budget and by the time I walked in to see her she had a sketch of the Carlyle drawn up and a sample ready for me to see.

Here are the pics from my second 3 hour visit.

Summer evening wedding - Carlyle ballroom with only 12 tables which one would you choose?

The candletree is very different, but I do think it doesn't look very 'summery'. So I voted for the callas.

I also agree. I think the callas look wonderful and if they add the light like you said, even better. The trees are cool, but not very warm and not very summery.

I think the calla lillies are better for a summer wedding, the candle tree reminded me more of winter wedding.

I'll be the first to say that I usually love the candle trees. In fact, I was originally hoping to use them as my centerpiece back when I thought I was going to have an evening reception. But, with the way they are, they seem too dark for a summer wedding - too wintery, where as the callas look much more summery. I particularly love the callas with the candles. Now, I have 2 suggestions that might help the candle trees look more summery, which might help matters. Can they use a lighter wood for the trees like birch? A light/white wood would help lighten things up. A second option might be a flowering branch like cherry blossoms or pussywillow branches. Those might help lighten things up too. Just some ideas! Good luck choosing!

I absolutely love the candletree. I plan on doing something like that as well. I think it is so romantic and unique.

There is a way that Michelle and John can add some flowers but it would be by physically plucking them off their stem and stapling/tieing/twisting them around each branch. Can you say $$$$? That is a lot of labor. There is one branch that HAS little red berries/buds on it but it is not in season and impossible to get in July. I have a pic of that and what it looks like in the Carlyle - i will post later tonight.

I love them both. I am having Michelle do the tree for my card table and she mentioned she could wire blossoms (in our case fall leaves) to the branches. I think the callas are summery because summer makes me think of flowers and blossoms. I love the tree though, its different and it makes an impression as others said. Could Michelle wire some sort of blossoms to the tree to make it look more like a summer time tree rather than a fall piece? I think that would be pretty. Maybe blossoms in the colors of your bouquets or something. Just and idea. Both CP's are beautiful though, you cant go wrong.

edited to say I just saw what you said about the flowers on the trees. sorry I am blind.

I think the callas are more appropriate for the ballroom at Carlyle. IMO, the candletrees are beautiful, but I see those more in an old mansion-type setting, one where there are not that many windows. At Carlyle, because you have that gorgeous ballroom with all those windows, I just feel like the callas look better in that type of setting. Hope this helps!

It is actually BECAUSE there are so many windows that I love the candle light that the tree provides. In the open room you can see right through the branches and the only thing you see is the twinkle of the candles - and you see it twice b/c of the reflection in all of the windows.

I do wish there were a way to combine the blossoms on there without costing me an arm and a leg. But it would.

So here is the link updated with some pics of each of the centerpieces in the ballroom at the Carlyle.

Please take a peek to see what I mean. And tell me if any opinions have changed.

It sounds like you have a very firm favorite - the candle tree! If that's what you love, that's what you should get. The opinion that matters most is yours and your FH's. Do whatever makes the two of you the most happy.

In my opinion, yes, the callas are fitting to the elegance of the ballrom, but it sounds like you aren't all that thrilled with them - if that's the case, I wouldn't even consider them. The candletree, while not as 'sophisticated,' gives the room a magical/romantic look. Would it be more ideal if the tree limbs had buds or flowers, probably, but it still has that beautiful magical quality without it.

Go with your heart and you will not be disappointed!

I'd pick the Callas BUT - I like the candle tree too. Is there something you can add to the vase to hide the tree ends? I saw this done with sliced lemons & it was awesome! Will there be flowers or petals at the base of the candle tree?

OH BOY!!!! I LOVE that candletree too! But again, I don't believe I can get the orchid branches and it would costs serious money due to the added labor for them to try to add these buds to the branches themselves. Is it worth all that? Waaaaa. I really love it but I agree it needs something floral... hmmmm, what to do....

Re: Please Vote - Centerpiece Samples from Flower Michele

maybe i should just bag them both and go with candles......

how about this with red roses?

Re: Please Vote - Centerpiece Samples from Flower Michele

Laura - there's no way they could do the candletree with cherry blossom branches instead?

I love calla lilies, but I prefer the candletree. Is there anyway though that you could get branches with a bud on it? They have to have one available that is affordable.
