Re: Please...I need a favor...With regards to your INLAWS

Where do I even begin??? Well, last May, we had our engagement party, and my family all lives in Iowa. My mother was persistant on helping with all the planning, and wanted to pay. FH dad would not allow my mother to pay for evertything, etc. Well, my nephew had to have open heart surgery, so my mom went over the available dates with him. Future father in law took it upon himself to choose a date 2 days before the surgery. His daughter handled all the invitations, and after we gave our list had the nerve to call up and ask us to take people off of our list, as we had 80, and she had 65. Then called back stating it was the wrong thing to do, and she was sorry. So, what happens, she didn't send invites to people she thought didn't need to be there, and future father in law, his girlfriends, and her, sent 1, yes 1 to my ENTIRE family. They received it 4 days before the party. Needlesss to say, they didn't come because they had not booked tickets, and the prices were outrageous. So, we had our party, and then went home, and my mom threw us another. It was very hard for me not having any family there only friends. Still til this day I get upset about it. FFIL, knows and has apologized numerous times, he started crying after I told him everything from my prospective and begged what could he do to make it up to me. Did I over react????

Mine made me cry 3 days before the wedding...she drinks every night, forgets things, holds grudges (as in not speaking to me because she blames me for us moving to GA)...what else do you need to know?

Oh , I have lived through hell with my inlaws!! There are so many stories I can't begin to tell you! One of the worst situations I have had was with the Mother in law, who is the worst of everyone!
Ok here's the story:
When my hubby and I started planning the wedding she thought she was going to run the show and my mother and DH and I would just pay for it! When DH and I booked our hall we were so excited and DH went home to share the news. I came over later with a video tape about our hall. The minute I got to his house his mother backed me into a corner and started screaming at me. She called me all kinds of names. The reason she was so mad was because at that time there were no smoking laws and my hall allowed people to smoke in the rooms.

I have many more if you need to hear!

Re: Please...I need a favor...With regards to your INLAWS

she's a manipulative, spiteful, B*t*h. She's only nice when it suits her needs....she needs to be needed and therefore buys things for people. She needs control.

Example...her middle daughter also livesin GA, she has 2 boys. MIL & FIL have come down every year in Sept. for the boys b-days. Well ALL of a sudden, this year she isn't coming down....these boys look forward to it (cuz grandma spoils them). WHY isn't she coming down???? Cuz we're down here and she can't 'handle' it. I think in the month we've been down here, she has asked about me once. The 2 times she has forwarded our mail...she addresses it to DH only, and MY mail is in there too. Oh...and and she was miserable the entire day of the wedding until all her family was back at her house. no smiles in the pictures....and from what I heard, she made no effort to 'pretty' herself up that morning!!!!

She did a lot for us for the wedding, don't get me wrong....but it was to suit her needs.

Hmm, nothing too terrible with the inlaws... yet. She's very nice, and i know she loves me, but she wants to move in with me and fh once she retires... which i know will only lead to bad things...
This story, however, is about my step-father's mother...

When she lived in florida, she would constatly chastise my mom for keeping her son in NY, and blame her for him not wanting to move to florida to be with her (he didn't want to move at all).

When my aunt (her daughter) died, she got her life insurance policy, and came into a bit of money, which my step father controled (she was known lose her check book, ect. so he didn't want her to have all that money in her name).

Mind you, he was not using any of it. She, however, decided he was and called several times a day to leave messages about how horrible we all were and how we were wasting her money.

She was recently diagnosed with alzhimers and wanted to move in with us and for my mother to quit her job to take care of her.

As my step-father now says about the alzhimers 'at least now when she gets mad at me, she forgets about it five minutes later.'

I thought I had the mil from hell. I dont talk to mine at all. I barely spoke a few words to her the day of the wedding thats it. She has said some hurtful things about me. But I dont care anymore I just dont talk to her. She lives in FL.

My inlaws were miserable at my wedding, and then when we had Thanksgiving Dinner at my MIL's house- 1 day after our honeymoon, not one person said they had a nice time at OUR wedding, but I DID get to hear about my SIL's wedding 15 YEARS prior. UGH.
