Plus one?

Plus one?

Are you inviting your friends with plus one?

Our friends aren't invited with a plus one, but they sure do think they are.

FH and I would LOVE to invite everyone with a plus one but it just is not in the budget for us since we are paying for the reception ourselves. You are getting a plus one if you are engaged or married. Is that bad?

Do you think they will be understanding?

i know of a lot of people who have done that...however, you will always get people who don't understand don't stress too much about it you have to do what's right for you and FH

Honestly I understand where you are coming from, because we are paying ourselves too. However, I can totally understand why people would get upset. In my opinion anyone 21 and over should get a plus one. It is slightly insulting. (i only say this because I have been the loser without a date at a wedding)

at 1st I wasnt inviting ppl not in a relationship with plus ones, but the more I thought about I knew that ppl will be very upset so I did end up writing 'and guest' on the invites
I thought arguing and having hurt feeling over something like this wasnt worth it
this actually happened for the best as we got A LOT of no's or just no replies

maybe u can say to ur friends that u will let them know as u will get most of the RSVPs back. I did say that to one friend who wanted to bring her family and she totally understood

Re: Plus one?

as of now we are only inviting plus ones for people who are engaged or we know wont really have anyone else to sit with, like a random friend that doesnt necessarily know everyone else... but if we are inviting ppl as well as their parents (as a family), i dont think they need a plus one... it really depends on your list... we have ALOT of ppl so i'm not going to kick out a family member so someone else can bring a date... i think as we get no's we can maybe let ppl know whether or not they can bring someone... i do feel a little bad about it but i have to think about the budget and also the amount of ppl who can fit in the room

The only reason we were thinking of not inviting them with dates is because they are all friends. So they really would not be by themselves with no one to talk to. I do get what your saying though. I think that if they did not know each other, then we would def invite them with a guest.

we are only doing plus one if they have been with that person for a while now. not if they just started dating. people have to understand, we dont have all the money in the world

We added all of our friends with a plus one even if they arent dating someone. I know some people get offended and didnt want to start anything so I just added everyone with and guest. I know most of them will respond just one anyway

I think only inviting people with a plus one if they are engaged causes issues. What if a friend is in a relationship, but not engaged? It's almost like you are disqualifying their relationship bc they arent in the process of getting married. I think people can easily be offended by this.

I personally would invite everyone with a plus 1...but at the very least anyone that has a significant other...whether engaged or not

This is what we're doing -- You get a plus one if:
1. You're engaged
2. You're living with the person
3. You're in a serious relationship and have been dating them for a while
4. You don't know too many people who are going to be at the wedding

It's your wedding. I don't care too much about the number of people, but I don't want a ton of people at my wedding that I've never met AND I hate when people bring friends just for the sake of bringing SOMEONE.

For the most part no plus ones for us! As a matter of fact someone called this morning to ask if their invite included a guest even though it had no reference to a guest, because she wanted to take a guy she is dating, and FH said absolutely not (so proud of him, he is starting to sound like me, tears, tears). Only if they are married, if they are dating someone and we know them well enough by now. Sorry...thats just the way it is!

This is exactly what we are doing!

We are paying for the wedding ourselves too, but everyone is getting a plus one. One less thing I have to fight about. I am more than ready to fight if you change the guest# to something I didn't give. e.g. from 2 seats to 3, 4, etc.

We aren't doing +1 for singles BUT if someone really wants to bring a bf or gf, they can call us and request.

I just don't want to do a +1 and have single people bring randoms as dates. (A female friend once brought me as a date to a wedding YEARS ago...thinking about it now, I would NEVER want that.)

Re: Plus one?

Its a really tough situation.... I am inviting everyone plus one bc I wouldnt want to offend anyone. For example, FH and I were together for 6 years before we got engaged and if he was invited to a wedding without me just bc we werent engaged yet - I would have been offended. Perhaps you should take into consideration people who are currently in a relationship? And then anyone who is single - invite them solo? That's JMO, in the end you have to do whats right for you - dont put yourself into a financial hole just so people can sit next to a date.

we werent going to......but after looking over the list and taking into account all the outta towners that prob werent going to come...the number we promised the hall...we ended up being able to give everyone (like 10 ppl) plus one's.

most of them we figured arent even going to end up bringing someone anyway..... so we figured it would be better to just make everyone happy

We invited everyone plus one if they were over 18. Suprisingly, not everyone took us up on our offer.

Re: Plus one?

I am putting 'and guest' on everyones. I honestly don't think most of them are going to bring dates but being many of them are in their mid 20s+ i wanted to give them that option.

You need to do what is right for you though.
