my plus size BM's didnt neessarily 'try' it on-- I chose something for them that would be ok and comfortable.... you can see my review for pics :)
Thanks, my sister isn't willing to buy something without seeing what it looks like on her.
I really need to figure something out because I'm stalling on the other BM' while she makes a decision.

Re: Plus size BM dresses
I know Jim Hjelm makes plus size BM dresses. The place they were ordered from was Burtons. I don't know if they have the size to try on though. Call them to see what's available in that size.

Re: Plus size BM dresses
I think most BM dresses come in up to size 22 or 24. However, they usually don't carry them in the store - the sample size is usually 8, 10 or 12. I've been to Bridal Suite in Centereach, David's Bridal, Macy's Bridal Salon at Smithhaven, Jenny Yoo, Priscilla of Boston and RK Bridal, and almost every dress I looked at ultimately came in 22 and 24. The only place that actually had those sizes in the store was David's - they had everything there from smallest to largest.

Re: Plus size BM dresses
I had a BM that was plus size and she looked beautiful in her dress. I had the 966 Bill Levkoff. It came with a shawl and it looked very nice on her.
This is the only pic I have on this computer right now. I have one of her and I but I don't have it on this computer.

Re: Plus size BM dresses
i went to Helens Bridal and although the sample sizes were small, every dress came in the sizes i need it in for my girls. All of my girls have extremely different body shapes, and it was easy to find dresses that suit all of them there.

The only place that has dresses to try on in your size is Davids. Other places will have one or two dresses but not many!

I am so dissapointed after my first trip out with my sister and I really need help!!!
Where did your girls go to try on dresses? I am specifically looking for 22/24.
Does anyone have pics of dresses that would look good on someone thats big on top? She would prefer with sleeves but is willing to consider a shawl.
TIA
I am not sure how old your BM is....but here is a link to what my MOH wore. MOH dress
The dress came from Mother of the bride collection....there are some that aren't too old farty looking....here is the website.
If she wants to try something on, it is worth it to take the drive to Sugarplum in Lynbrook, they have EVERY size in the store. I would ask for Ann she helped us (but I THINK some of the other women may have had a snotty tone)

Re: Plus size BM dresses
we didn't actually get to 'try' it on for my sister--but we ordered a Bill Levkoff from Phyllis at Bridal Elegance. She wears a size 28 -- and honestly allll of his dresses fit GREAT on plus sized girls.
i suggest going for a strapless a-line gown for your BM!

You both look really pretty!!!! Im going to mention BL to my sister since several people have mentioned it to me. I have a feeling she might end up having to suck it up and order w/out trying. Also, did it come with the wrap??
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay, I bought my dress at BE and I think they've had the best prices i've seen. For my dress she was about $300 less than anyone. Plus I kow they have a $60 cap for BM which i think is very reasonable.

Where did she try it on?
She tried it on in a size 14 at NJ Bridal Outlet - it's right near the Meadowlands in NJ...it didn't fit her properly obviously - but you could see that it would be PERFECT!!!

Re: Plus size BM dresses
I agree with MJDoc, strapless and A-line is great for plus-sized girls. I had a few plus sized girls in my party, and we got great customer service at Bridal Suite in Centereach. They had some dresses to try on in larger sizes, although not all. My sister was not comfortable in strapless, and they were able to make her a custom bolero jacket and added straps to her dress.
I definitely recommend going to David's, as they have the biggest variety in size on the rack to try on...at least so you your sis can get an idea of different styles. Then, you can get a similar style elsewhere if need be.
As a plus sized girl, I know how she feels. Gown shopping was difficult, but was able to get in a lot of samples so I could at least see how they looked, even if they didn't zip all the way. Also, I never thought I should wear strapless when I started shopping, but once I started trying things on, I realized that straps and sleeves just drew even more attention to 'problem' areas. Make sure she tries on a variety so she finds what she is most comfortable in!
HTH and good luck!

Thanks definetely helps. I felt exactly the same when I started looking for my dress. I didn't want to go sleeveless but all IMO most of the dresses I saw with them were so 'farty' to me. I ended up getting sleeveless and i'm getting a jacket made. I hvave a feeling my sister will end up doing the same no matter what. Plus that will make her style different since I have a feeling the other girls will end up getting strapless. I'll probably end up wearing it for most pictures but taking it off for the reception (which will drive my mom nuts). For some reasons its MUCH easier for brides than for BM's. In another few years I think that will change.
I also went to the BS in Centereach and had such a great experience. I almost felt guilty not buying my dress there but in the end they didn't carry the brand I purchased. I think in a few weeks i'll take my sister on a trip to Macy's, DB and BS since they are all in the same area. I'll have to see what else I can come up with.
I think if need be, i'll show my sister some of the pictures from on here. You and MJDoc12's BM's had similar dresses and it might make her feel more comfortable.
Thanks again!!!!

Watters & Watters has a few with sleeves that I think would look nice. Here is one: Style # 9938
