Wondering if anyone can direct me to a website catering to plus size women. I have seen that Paradise Bridal carries a line of plus size wedding dressings, but I'm wondering about the garter and comfortable shoes (I'm a size 12) etc etc. Thanks for any guidance.
I have seen a lot of mixed reviews about Paradise Bridal. Should I look elsewhere?

Maybe you can call one of the wedding dress stores, for ex Bridal reflections, etc and maybe they can direct you... Sorry. I am not really sure.

Re: Plus Size Brides
Try out Lillette's in Baldwin- they have gowns in plus sizes. Also there are a handful of desingers that carry larger size gowns- Alfred Angelo, Maggie Sottero, Jasmine, Mori Lee just to name a few.
As for shoes I'd try stores like Shoe Elegance in Lynbrook, and also Bridal Shoe Boutique over by DSW in Carle Place.
As for the garter maybe try ebay since a few of them are custom order and inexpensive.

Re: Plus Size Brides
you can go almost any where to order plus size dresses. many places wont be able to completely zip you i am a size 14 and it was close so you are a 12 and should have no problem. the way they put the gown on you get a good idea how it will look/fit i went to davids bridal, lillettes, burtons, a few others - can't remember.. one was on hempstead turnpike in farmingdale... andi ended up at bridal suite huntington.
garters are stretchie - i pretty sure my grandma is making mine but its a 'surprise'
shoes - i went to a place in commack..sorry forgot the name.. its popular on this site.. its on jericho turnpike.. try them all on! mine are dyables but comfortable and i have a wide foot- not all of the dyables were comfortable- you just gotta try them!

My cousin went to Bridal Reflections in Carle Place and they told her they have a better plus size selection at their Massapequa store. She did get her dress there and she looked great.

Re: Plus Size Brides
Thanks so much for the info. When do you order the dress? Getting married exactly 2 years from today, so I'd like to take the next year to lose weight. Do I order 1 year in advance? 6 months?

one bit of advice, after your final fitting...stop losing weight. I made this mistake...lost 3-4 more, my dress was too loose.

Re: Plus Size Brides
I plan on starting to look in July, getting married in June.
Don't go to early beacuse your mind may change. I would do it about 10 months before, that should be plenty of time to get your dress. You don't want it sitting around.

I do have a habit of changing my mind. Really like the line from Bonny. Seems like they have a lot of plus size dresses that would compliment my figure. Looking forward to trimming down a bit for a better gown fit. Just so excited about this all. It's addicting!

Bridal Elegance in Dix Hills carries plus size gowns , they also carry Bonny which is the designer of my gown. I bought mine at Bridal Elegance- they have been great to me so far!

Re: Plus Size Brides
Estelle's has dresses in larger sizes. so you may want to look at theirs first to get an idea of which styles look best since you can actually get into their dresses. sizes up to maybe 24 in the store.

Re: Plus Size Brides
My issue is I'm a 26/28 and 6' tall. I'm afraid to buy anything online because of this. I'm hoping through diet and exercise to get down to a 22 before my wedding (actually had this planned prior to his proposal for health reasons) but my height is a major issue. I have a long torso and long legs so while I'm looking forward to my dress shopping, I'm also dreading it.

Re: Plus Size Brides
I got an Alfred Angelo gown.
Beautiful Bride in Lynbrook had the gown in a plus-size there, so I could try it on and see exactly how it would look.
I bout my size 22 Maggie at Bridal Reflections in Carle Place. Try on some corset back dresses. They are more forgiving than zipper back and offer great support because of the built in corset. Lillette's also had some plus size Maggies.
Best thing to do is when you find a dress that you would like to try on, call a couple of stores to see if they have it or if they can get you a sample in a close size to try on. I got into size 16 Maggies, went over my hips with no problems.

Re: Plus Size Brides
Thanks so much for the advice. Need all the help I can get. Weddings are so not my thing, but find myself becoming obsessed with every aspect. I'm an over planner and over analyzer and weddings are definitely a detail oriented event. Right up my alley.
