I am all about the garter thing but my FH DOES NOT WANT TO DO IT!
Is it considered tacky?
I always love watching it and always have a good laugh plus my mom is all about it (traditions...etc).

I'm not doing any of that. We are an older couple and everyone coming to the wedding is married except for my flower girl.

Re: Poll: Are you doing garter and bouquet toss?
We had DH remove the garter, but we didn't toss anything.
We did the anniversary dance to give away the bo-k. We didn't give the garter to anyone.
My grandparents are the ones who ended up winning, so it would have been weird to give my grandpa the garter
It was a lot of fun, and one of the surprises I had for DH -- I had 4 garters
ETA: we did it this way because we were both 30 (or close to it), and so many of our friends were already married with children. it seemed silly to have the tossing. also, we didn't want to 'call out' our single friends. i don't necessarily think its antiquated, but i do think it depends on the age of your guests ...

Re: Poll: Are you doing garter and bouquet toss?
i tossed my bo-k & DH tossed the garter which is always fun but then instead of having the guy put his hands up a random girls dress(lol) we did something a little different.....we played a fun upbeat frank sinatra song & I danced with the guy that caught the garter & DH danced with the girl that caught the bo-k. it was fun & a little different just another idea to throw out there!

ps: no i dont think it's tacky...its tradition & people are so used to it..i've personally been the victim of having a random sweaty drunk guy put his hands up my legs so i didn't wanna do that part lol.

Re: Poll: Are you doing garter and bouquet toss?
We did the anniversary dance. I'm not a fan of either the bouquet toss or the garter removal.
Bouquet toss: implies that single women's goal should be getting married and that there's something wrong with being single.
Garter removal: I didn't want DH going up my dress in front of my relatives and our friends. When I'm the onlooker of a garter removal, it's awkward.
Amusing story: When I was eight years old, my aunt got married and tossed the bouquet. My family jokingly encouraged me to stand with the women who were going to try to catch it. What ensued was the same kind of chaos that occurs on TV and the movies: women fighting over the flowers as if catching them would actually predict who was getting married next. In the process, someone pushed me over. Way to be klassy, ladies, by knocking over the third grader.

I must admit I didn't read the other replies. But FH and I only plan on doing this once. Since we aren't getting married in a church, we agreed that everything else would be 'traditional'. Garter, Bo-K, cake cutting. It is to make both sides of parents happy and because all of that stuff are things we both always wanted at our wedding.

We only did the bok toss, not enough single guys at my wedding that were willing to do it, so we scratched it

Re: Poll: Are you doing garter and bouquet toss?
i have mostly married people arriving at our wedding but the few single people are like - WHAT NO GARTER or bq toss??? So i thought about it and all my friends who are not single are not really 'dancing' people so i figured for them and to break up the wedding a bit we will do the whole thing.
plus it is a way to sneak in some unique songs that are more FH and i and less 'wedding'

Re: Poll: Are you doing garter and bouquet toss?
I have several unmarried people at the wedding so I'm doing it - especially since one of my friends brother is going to be there and he's going to propose on this coming Valentine's Day to his long time gf.

I really DONT want to do it. But I have a feeling my FMIL will not be happy if I dont do it. She is into tradition and wants all those things...I would much rather just dance the night away!

We are doing both. It's tradition for a reason and I in no way think it's tacky. I think it's fun and silly and people enjoy it...and if they don't then they can get over it cause it's a fun thing that only a bride and groom get to take part in. I don't want to regret not doing anything

Re: Poll: Are you doing garter and bouquet toss?
I have a bunch of single girlfriends attending the wedding, so it would be fun to do, but FH doesn't have that many single male friends to fight for the garter, so we're just doing the bo-k.

We're not sure. I'm not a huge fan of it. I just think it's antiquated. I never enjoyed it as a single person. Fh kinda wants to do it. But, I feel like it will take about 30 minutes out of the dancing and we really want as much dancing time as possible.
