I am all about the garter thing but my FH DOES NOT WANT TO DO IT!
Is it considered tacky?
I always love watching it and always have a good laugh plus my mom is all about it (traditions...etc).

We're definitely going to do all of it. Every wedding I've been to has had it that way and I've enjoyed it...it's a cute fun part of the wedding. And everyone wants to catch the bok!

Not doing any of it. A lot of my single girlfriends are over 40. When you are younger its cute, but at age 40 I think its humiliating. And not enough single guys for the garter thing...plus my garter is an heirloom and I want to keep it!

I don't particularly like the garter thing...
We are just going to do a bouquet toss -- all of our friends (with the exception of 2 of our friends who are getting married 2 weeks before) are single!

We're just doing the anniversary dance. I think it's nice to honor the older guests.
I'm not big with the garter/bok thing. Only because I'm afraid NOONE will want to go up and do it and it will be so lame! I've been to so many weddings where it was me and like 3 other girls...I always do it because I feel bad.

FH thinks if we don't do this people will be disappointed....and even though I NEVER went up for the bouquet toss when I went to weddings and was single, I still kinda want to do it.....so we are! We have a lot of young unmarried people who are in relationships or not coming to the wedding, so I think we'll get enough people!

I'm not doing any of that. We are an older couple and everyone coming to the wedding is married except for my flower girl.
I know exactly how you feel. I was also an older bride. I wanted to have some tradition though. NO GARTER....I also had many guests that were married. I did not want to single out the few women that were single. I did a breakaway boquet. I attached a scratch off lottery ticket to each smaller boquet. Someone here also suggested doing fortune boquets. When it was time for the boquet toss....ALL OF THE WOMEN ARE CALLED UP....MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED....YOUNG OLD...I was really happy I did it that way.

We did both, it was a lot of fun & made for some really cute pictures!!!
ETA: One of my fears was that we wouldn't have any ladies or guys come up for the tosses but we actually had a lot!!!! It was really great

Its really up to you. We didnt do it becasue we have mostly older married friends and the younger folks were unmarried but REALLY young or unamrried and REALLY old so it would have been awkward for the garter/ bouquet toss to have a 50 yr old dude sliding the garter up a 15 year olds leg!
Also when we have gone to weddings when they did it, we always felt self concious because if the girl who catches the boquet had a b/f, ALL the other guys stepepd back and let him get the garter out of respect and he was always embrasssed as hell.
What i had considered doing and didn't, was making a big show of giving my boquet to my mother. I intended to do it with one of my BM's boquets but they didnt want to give them up the jerks lol and we ran out of time. You can also have the boquet and garter given to the longest married couple at your wedding-its cute to see them stammer and blush as he slides the garter on and there is ALWAYS commentary!

yup we are doing the whole nine yards. tradition is tradition to us and with both think it will be fun.
