I've been told that we should think about having additional desserts at the reception, like a dessert table. But we're having petit fours and appetizers for cocktail hour, do you think that's enough, or should we consider additions?

My hall offers a dessert course along with the cake.
We will also have a mini-viennese platter of cookies and pastries on each table as well.
This is all part of the package I am not paying extra for anything else.

We had a mini-viennese hour, but that is because I wanted it
If your budget allows I think it's a nice addition, but it is not necessary

Some people decide to do the vienesse hour, which is an entire layout of every dessert imaginable. I am not doing that, besides the money, I just felt no one is hungry by then... I've NEVER gotten up for more dessert at a weddings, IMO.
Anyway, to answer your question though, I am having extra pastries, cookies, etc at each table. Along with Cappacino/espresso machine and liquors and cordials.
Whew, I hope I answered that right!

Our hall includes some ice cream thing, a mini vienese with cookies and pastries and fresh fruit (on each table)and the wedding cake. I think thats enough. The vienese hour is nice but it's a waste. JMO

We're having an ice cream dessert, along with an espresso/cordial bar that serves the cordials in chocolate cups.

Many menus come with an additional dessert beyond the wedding cake. I had cookies on the table and a swan cream puff pastry in additional to the cake. It depends on what you want. In my opinion the extra Viennese hour with all the cakes is not necessary if you already have desert in addition to your cake. Way too much food!

our hall gives us a mini vianesse table. i think that is plenty. I agree with the by the vianesse hour everyone is so stuffed from cocktail hour, appitizers, entree, and cake that it just becomes a waste.
i think a mini vianesse table or maybe some pastries on each table is fine, but a whole other hour of dessert is just too much food and a waste

I ordered canolli from Alba's in Brooklyn (one for each person) plus I had a crepe with choc/van icecream and choc. sauce over it.

Our plated dessert was amazing, plus they added a plate of pastries & cookies to the table. This was more than enough.
IMO a Vianesse hour is costly & more imptly it invites guest to sit instead of party! That's really what we wanted to avoid. Unless you're having exta time tacked on to your reception, I'd opt to spend the money elsewhere.

We get a dessert as part of the meal and they also put strawberries on the table or something in addition to the cake.
Personally, I think that's MORE THAN ENOUGH.
As a guest, I usually feel halfway through my entree from cocktail hour and all the other courses and I can't imagine anyone needing THAT MUCH dessert after all the food that comes before it. It borders on gluttony :lol:
Then again, I know that in some cultures, Viennese hour is paractically a given and people would be disappointed if you didn't have it!

Our hall also included an additional dessert, we did Hagan-daz sundaes and had the mini vienese as well. It's nice b/c a lot of people don't really like cake, so it gives them other options.

MMMM...I'm getting hungry reading about all of these desserts. My parents are traditional Italian folks, and my mom in particular was concerned about the desserts since we have a lot of people coming and my dad had already requested to have the cordial bar along with espresso bar, which I thought was enough. I think since I eloped the first time I married and didn't have a reception or anything traditional, my family really want me to go all out, so to speak. Plus you know how moms can be, they always worry about the family and friends, and if they'll be happy enough, etc. Thanks for the recs though, I definitely have a better idea.

My hall offered either a full vienesse hour or a mini-vienesse hour. We decided on a full vienesse. My dad loves cocktail hour and vienesse hour, so I got it.

In addition to the cake, we will be having a separate dessert and some cookies and mini-pastries. I think that is plenty considering I usually only see people take one bite of their cake and that was it.

Aside from wedding cake, our site also offers an ice cream parfait. I also added on a bowl of chocolate covered strawberries for each table, I think that will be plenty cuz ITA that altho very nice addition, a viennese table only encourages peeps to sit down & continue eating instead of partying! What you're offering should be plenty! :)

BTW, did anybody else see the candy bar in the recent MS Weddings magazine!?! I love that idea!!! I wish I knew more kids! I'd invite them just so I would have an excuse to do that!
