It will be the week of Thanksgiving - either the day before, or the day after. (Wednesday or Friday.)
He's an untenured teacher, so taking days off for a honeymoon will be a little difficult, SO we'd prefer the Wednesday, so we can leave Thursday (thanksgiving) for a honeymoon, and spend the next week away (he can use his wedding days, and 2 personal days for that week.)
His Mom FLIPPED OUT when I said Wednesday. She said, 'Well nobody's going to come on a Wednesdayyyy, I've never heard of such a thing!!!'
She made me feel pretty lousy about that...

thanks guys - we're leaning towards changing our preference from Weds to Fri...
it's not so hard to spend a couple days in NYC, then go on vacation in Dec.

i would do day after- the friday would be easier for people who are hosting dinner, and many will have off that friday anyway

Wed is a great night for a parrty, most people leave work early....
I would think Friday may be hard to find vendors...

I have a friend going to a wedding the day before Thanksgiving and she isn't happy about it because she has a lot of Thanksgiving prep... I don't cook so IMO it wouldn't matter. But for the majority I think it may be a difficult day. It is also a peek travel time. But, either way, the people that love you will be there.

I would make the call based on the number of OOT guests - just because of the horrendous traffic on that Wednesday. If you have mostly locals I think it's a great night to party! Thanksgiving Eve lots of people like to celebrate.

If you are booking your wedding to accomodate your honeymoon, maybe you could go on your honeymoon during school break. There is no written rule that you have to go on your honeymoon right after the wedding. I'm getting married mid-December and then I'm going on my honeymoon at the end of January because that's when FH has a break from school. It gives me something else to look forward to. We wanted a Christmas wedding, so we wait for the honeymoon a bit.
If I had to choose, I would choose Friday. I agree that a lot of hostesses might be upset that they have to prepare all the food the day of Thanksgiving, after being out late the night before.
Thanksgiving can be very stressful for those that are hosting.
