POLL: Do you / did you accept 'verbal' yes RSVPs?

POLL: Do you / did you accept 'verbal' yes RSVPs?

I'm curious.......
some people say they're definitely coming, they just haven't 'had a chance' to send the RSVP card.

Do you / would you accept that or do you require them to send back the RSVP card?

I have not yet added these people to my yes tally. But what if they never 'get around to' sending the card?

GOOD QUESTION!!!

I've gotten a few verbal replies (yes AND no's!)

It takes as much time to pick up the phone and tell me you are coming as it does to put a little check mark on the piece of paper, lick the envelope and walk out to the mailbox when you are leaving your house....

send the rsvp back!!!!! ahhhhhhh

ok, i feel better.

i 'pencil-ed' those people in, and told them to mail anyway.

they eventually arrived in the mail.

the ONLY one who has not sent it back is my MINISTER!!!! i'm not bitter

I accepted them, but told them to mail the RSVP in as well!

I made the mistake of doing this in 2 cases..one where a mom verbally RSVPed for her son and her son's girlfriend who never repsonded for themselves and one where I got actually got a no RSVP but the guest's sister swore to me that their mom sent it back w/out asking him and that her brother was coming and bringing a date...I know my examples are extreme because we accepted once removed verbal responses but I'm sure it's no conincidence that these 4 people were our 4 no shows....

If these people don't send their cards back, wait until after the RSVP date, call them again, ask point blank (when I think they'd be less likely to give a 'yeah sure' kind of response) and only then take their word for it....oh, and still try to get them to send the stinken thing

I did not accept any verbal RSVPs. As of today there are two cards out there in la-la land.

No, I was an anal b*tch and refused to bother to remember the people my MIL told me said they were coming....good thing I didn't because 5 of them ended up calling her back 2 weeks before the wedding to say they weren't coming after all or sending in the cards saying they weren't after all and had been maybes all along! now that angry face is for my MIL who insisted they were all coming and who got mad when I said, 'when i get the card, i'll mark it.'

I didn't want to accept verbal RSVPs but it got to the point where that's all I had. If I didn't have a card back from them but they said 'yes' then it was a yes, I didn't have the time nor the patience to track down people that never formally responded.

When one of my best friends got married a few years ago, we used to talk about the wedding all the time. We talked almost every day, in fact. So I didn't send back the RSVP because I just assumed he knew I was coming. But the DAY after the 'reply-by' date, he called me and said, 'my fiancee doesn't have your little RSVP card and she's trying to make seating arrangements.' I was like, 'duh, you've seen the DRESS i'm wearing to your wedding, why do i need to send back the stupid little card?' But I could tell that he was offended, like I didn't care enough about the wedding to do this one small thing, when that totally wasn't the case. I guess I'm just trying to say, please don't be offended by verbal RSVPs, some people who are totally uncouth (like me!) don't mean any harm, they just assume that if they tell you they're coming, you know they're coming. Just call them and gently prod them like my friend did, if you can.

I insisted they send the RSVP card until it passed the RSVP date...and then I took their RSVP w/ a grain of salt. You are too busy to check off yes and put it in the envelope and stick it in your mailbox? It has a darn stamp on it!!! It's nothing short of rude, I'm sorry. Wouldn't you know it...most people who gave verbal RSVP's did not show up.

ETA: I told people that I can not add them to the yes tally w/ out the card because I was using the cards to figure out seating charts or something. That got many to send them back.

i didn't want to, but i had to - otherwise my guest list wouldn't be completed. i was just sick of the gosh darn list, i accpeted the verbals. whatever. but do i have a mental list of who couldn't be bothered? you bet. it's just sooo lazy and rude. THEY ARE PRESTAMPED & PREADDRESSED FOR G*D'S SAKE!!!

last night, i went to pick up the engagement pics we ordered. on my way home, i went to hallmark and picked up blank notecards to send people wallet pics in. when i got home, FH asked what the cards were for... i told him they were thank you notes for all those that we invited, that couldn't be bothered to rsvp. 'dear so-and so... we just wanted to extend our sincere thanks for your true laziness in not finding the time in the last 3+ months to mail back the preaddressed, prestamped rsvp card. we enjoyed spending a grand on invitations for no apparant reason. we also appreciate the chance to have to track down all the adults who couldn't be bothered - we have nothing better to do than help you pull your head out of your a$$!!!'
FH thought i was serious!! i wish i was though

No I did not accept any verbals. I did have someone tell me they were coming and I told them, if I dont have the RSVP card, then they wont have a seat. Two days later I had it in my mailbox.

I put the stamp on it, they can have the decency to mail it back. Sorry if it sounds Bridezilla to you but that is my feeling on it.

This is my theory, you spend so much time & money on the invitations that you deserve someone sending them back appropriatly. If people started telling me verbally I would say, 'I don't have the best memory but if you could send back the RSVP card that would be great.' This way knowone becomes insulted.

I wouldn't really accept just a 'verbal' yes unless it's from my parents!!

yes, after I certain point I didn't care anymore. I let them call me, tell me, hand me the card. as long as I had an answer.
