I always find it nice to be able to say to my FH:
'I make more than you so YOU get me the beer, honey.' :D

For those of you who do make more, do you sometimes feel resentful? I love being able to buy whatever I want but I also know that I will always have to work, even when we have kids. And as a woman, sometimes it's nice to be pampered by your man. I think a lot of times I wish our salaries were reversed
I make MUCH more than my DH (like double his salary).....do I wish I could be a SAHM for a few years, sure...but I knew who I was marrying and I knew that I would not be able to be a SAHM so I am cool with it. I actually like to work and have my own money so it works for us

I used to make more than him, but now he makes more than me. Hopefully he will be getting another raise in a couple of months, and then it will be A LOT more than me. But it doesn't really matter to me who makes more because the money is our money. So when he gets raises, I know we will be able to afford more things (like a house) together...

I know for some of us it doesn't matter who makes more. And I certainly don't mean to cause any kinda discomfort by this thread.
I was watching Suze Orman (financial whiz) talking with a girl on the phone the other day. The girl's hubby makes 2x more than the her. They have a joint account and each have a separate account for their own personal expenses....
Well, the man insist they put in the same amount equally when obviously if they do that the girl would have less money for herself...
ie. if she makes 100k and he makes 200k:
they put in 50k a year equally. this means she puts in 1/2 her income while he puts in only 1/4 of his income.
suze advised the girl that this is completely unfair to her since they make such a drastically different income. and that the girl should insist on :
1/3 of her 100k income = 33k 1/3 of his 200k income = 67k
anyway thats how i got the idea for this tread.... what's everyone's take on this?

DH and I have had a joint savings account for about 5 years and seperate checking accounts.
2 years ago, we decided on a plan to pay off all my credit cards and car, and then sell it and buy a new car for both of us.
We didn't keep tabs on how much I put into the effort or how much he did. The car is under my name but it's as much his as it is mine.
We don't see our salaries or bank account balances as seperate things. If I fall short at the end of a month because of a large bill (like car insurance every 6 months), we just transfer some money around. If it has to come from his checking account instead of our joint savings, so be it.
For us, we've always thought of it this way: if we're going to truly be a couple, there should only be 'our' money, not 'your' money and 'my' money. It's all the same in the end.
Besides what someone mentioned about whoever makes less will stay home with the children, I don't see any reason to keep track of who's money is who's or to keep it seperated. Especially not after you're legally married.

He makes more than me right now, but I'm full-time in grad school while working part time.

FH and I joke around all the time about this
FH owns his own business and makes a lot more than I do BUT we always joke around that he is marrying me fo the insurance and other benefits from my government job. . .
fh teases me about this all the time too, only mine is my teacher's benefits, but money is never an issue with us, so far,

FH and I make the same salary but he gets bonus' twice a year so he is almost 50% more than me at the end of the year.
