POLL: Do you really believe that BAD families are a direct result of BAD areas?

POLL: Do you really believe that BAD families are a direct result of BAD areas?

I would never judge a person purly based on where they live.

ETA:

Explanation:
I posted that I once had to sit up all night and hold a gun in case I had to defend my kid brothers and sister. My father spent the same night out front defending our home (it was their LAST night there). It was a rough neighborhood, obviously.

Reference as made that this was 'BOYZ in the HOOD' type of environment and it was questioned how I could have a good relationship with my father.

Reference was made that with the things i've seen and been around I somehow require anger management.

My poll comes out of the idea that I find that a neighborhood good or bad had no reflection on the relationship with the children and their parents. You can still have a normal happy family no matter where you are. You can also probably have a very bad family unit as well, even if it was a rich neighborhood.

The discussion (if any) is why should one be judged based on where they lived and what they had to live with. As long as that person ended up doing good (which I think I personally have) and as long as those people try to be the best people they can be with what they were given. My family worked hard to keep me in decent clothes and teach me important values and keep me on the right track. I think they did pretty well. It shouldn't matter where I grew up.

JMHO

FUTHER TO ADD:
You can have good memories in these types of neighborhoods.. I think that makes sense.
If not, then discuss

I think you need more choices in your poll.

I know someone who always likes to boast that he never lived in an apt- always in a nice house, claiming that his parents wanted a good life for him and they did not want to expose him to bad neighborhoods.

Well let me tell you him and his family are the most frigged up people I know.

Yeah.. I dont want to sound defensive but it seems *I* cant have a happy normal relationship with my father because we grew up in a ... 'BOYZ IN THE HOOD' environment.

*shrug*

Perhaps I should lie and say I grew up middle class in a cookie cutter apt area?

People judge what they don't understand - its just what they do. I think it's terrible and try to keep myself in check because I'm not perfect either.

Never judge a book by its cover...that's what they taught me in grammar school. It would be nice if everyone remembered that.

ETA: I have a girlfriend who had the *perfect* life. Nice house, married parents, 2 kids, every year they took a family vacation to Disney World. Then, after the kids were grown they all fell apart! I have never met a more insane family in my life! The whole family has a lifetime prescription of prozac. You never can tell.

I am so confused by your post.

My answer was to never judge a book by its cover.

I think she's referring to the conversing happening in another thread....

IMO, a family unit will thrive when they have a good foundation, good morals, love one another and keep the communication open....
I think this is the case regardless of whether that happens in the best neighborhoon in the country, or the worst part of town you can imagine....

Ciminok I was thinking the same thing not enough to choose from a little narrow minded!

I'm a little confused by this poll, but I can answer no, I don't.

Bad families are based on bad parents. What exactly does the neighborhood have to do with it? If a parents can't keep a leash on their kids, how is that the neighborhoods fault? If the neighborhood sucks, it's the parents responsibility to keep their kids in check.

You dont know my life either and the trials and tribulations I went through I would have rathere lived your life then mine..... I grew up in that so perfect world little did anyone know what went on I was afraid of my own family never mind the outside world

I think it's a little closed-minded to think you have the right to judge anyone. Thus the last option to the poll, would be the least closed-minded of the options. JMO.

Im not calling you crazy. I wouldnt judge you on your family, neighborhood, religion (or lack there of) or any other basis.

It may seem 'crazy' to you, but it happened. It was a drive-by shooting and the guys got out and were running around our street. It happened, plain and simple. It's not like it was every night. But I don't understand is how you find that 'crazy'. Why?
