Poll: Holiday Shopping.....

I ask this because I plan on getting the bulk of it done this weekend, although I have started.

Re: Poll: Holiday Shopping.....

No offense.. but this is the one and only year we get to say 'Sorry, we're saving for a wedding' and NO ONE complains.

We are buy cards and mailing out those to the away folks we normally guy stuff for. For the home folks we are buying one large present (food type gift) from us to the family.

That's it. All done, no more shopping. Weddings ain't cheap!

Here's the REAL kicker.. my father is totally blowing tradition and eqiuette out on it's ear. He is sending out my Save the Dates along with the holiday cards and get this.. it HAS OUR REGISTERY places listed!!!!!

Gotta love Dad

It should prove to be an interesting holiday season!

Re: Poll: Holiday Shopping.....

I think about each gift i give a lot (not even conceiveable to be able to shop one time and get someone something, no less everyone). I know i am crazy but i cant help it. I dont see the point in giving a gift unless its really thought out.

So i am the kind that starts thinking and looking now but doesnt buy anythign until the final weeks.

Wow Sonicstef, that's amazing. See, I hate giving and getting xmas gifts. It causes me stress because I can never EVER think of anything good to get someone. I just feel like everyone I know has what they really want, and the things that they DO want, I could never afford. I try to listen for the few months before the holidays to see what everyone wants and/or needs, but either they buy it for themselves or I just can't get it straight. The safe thing for me is to get my mother and sister stuff for their houses. I know their styles and I know they can never get enough of that stuff. It's always safe. That and gift certificates. (I know, I know, the MOST impersonal gift ever, but hey, I LOVE getting them, so I go on that!)

I feel a bit of the stress too but i take it more like a game. Like trying to figure out what the person really wants and what i can afford to give, etc.. If i were just going to give something that required no thought or effort, then i might as well give nothing. Am i making sense?

I am a no gift certificate, no cash sort of person (unless its a child).

Re: Poll: Holiday Shopping.....

i hate christmas shopping. my family is absolutely impossible. they all have everything they need, they have like no hobbies or vices. it's awful. the only one that's easy is my niece b/c i always buy her cute clothes (she's 4). anyway, i can't wait til it's over.

but i have started my amazon wish list so that hopefully i get some books i'm dying to read :)

I usually don't start Xmas shopping until December. My friends and family usually end up buying things for themselves after I buy the same thing as a gift

Re: Poll: Holiday Shopping.....

For the past three years I made it a goal to be finished with all my shopping by Thanksgiving. It works out so well, too! Almost everything is done, and all I have to do from Thanksgiving to Christmas, is sit back and relax, and enjoy the holiday season.

I save my wrapping for a few days before Christmas, though. I make it a little ritual every year. I get everything together, put on Christmas CDs and wrap away!

I drive myself crazy down to the last minute. I am similar to Steph- I like to put a great deal of thought into each gift I give . . .

Re: Poll: Holiday Shopping.....

Me and FI started one of those Holiday clubs at our bank last year we have separate ones, I put $25 dollars a week and FI puts $30, so at the end of the year we get a pretty nice check to go shopping with, it's a good way to save for X-mas thoughout the year, we got the checks a couple of weeks ago, so I have a holiday itch to start, I have only bought a few stocking stuffers for FI

Xelindrya, PLEASE GET OUT OF MY HEAD. I feel the exact same way you do. I won't be spending too much money on gifts this year, but when I do it will be little and probably at the last minute. I'm such a procrastinator
