Poll: How did/is everyone saving money for the big day?

I am totally freaking out about where to start with the whole saving process. We have two years, but need to save quite a bit of money. My parents are paying for a majority of the wedding, which I am soooooooo thankful for, but we are up there in the amount of what we have left to pay for. FH is still in school and I am working full time and I just don't know how in the world we are supposed to save ANYTHING when we just make ends meet as it is. I was just wondering what everyone else did or is doing to save money. I need help!

I opened another savings account at my bank, and called it the Wedding Account. Every check I put $$$ in, and I saved A LOT of $$$$$ in the year and a half I was engaged. We both put $$$ in...but more me

I have been thinking lately about getting another job and putting the money aside, but then it makes me mad because I feel like FH should be working more. I worked full time in college and I guess I feel like he should be too. It's just so overwhelming!

That's awesome aliaspook. We were considering living with FH's parents for 6 months and putting the money that we pay now for rent into an account instead. As much as I don't want to live with them, I think it would be a great way to save.

Start looking at vendors early. If you have the money, I'd book them early too. Prices do go up every year...the earlier you shop around, the more likely you'd end up with the best vendors and the more bargaining power you have.

we opened a joint account and each put in $$ when we get paid. i got a kickin' tax refund this year, so i also put that in there. i've been cooking a lot more at home and cutting out non-essentials.

we figured out how much we would need and are putting in a set amount per week. If one of us doesn't put in that week, they owe the account. I am also putting in any extra I may have. It's really tough, but it's the only way we can have enough.

My mom is giving me money and we decided to take 10% from our pay and deposit to a seperate bank account- We putting deposits on the most important things. Im putting 1/2 of the money my mom gave me in a CD and they have soo many payment plans now that you can go month to month-until your day- Good Luck

My FH is not a good saver. I opened an account for us and every week I have him give me at least $50 it doesn't sound like much but I always wind up putting in a lot more than him. And neither one of us are to withdraw any money!

it doesnt save money, but plenty of people buy the little things over time, so that you dont see a big chuck of money disappearing at once. like get bubbles one day, get the favors another day, get t he programs another.... just spread it out.

Joe and I decided on a set amount and each pay check it would get deposited into a joint account. Eparty money went in there and tax return money too. We also cut out eating out...that means no more weekly sushi bar trips. And less new clothes. But keep saving and it will amaze you how it adds up!
We even decided that after the wedding we would keep depositing that amount each week...we're so used to doing it now..and that will add up for a down payment on a house!
I edited this to add we're having a friday afternoon wedding in the summerr! That really helped with costs!

We just opened a joint account and we're both depositing $$$ into it every week...along with tax return money, SO's vacation fund money and we'll probably cash in on a few company stocks (once the $ goes up!). My dad is buying my dress and he's also paying for the favors (we're going to donate $$ as well as do votive place settings) & invitations. Having just moved our Friday night wedding to Saturday...I'm freaking out ever-so-slightly...but we have 499 days, 7 hours & 8 minutes to save

We opened a joint savings and checking account as soon as we got engaged. We made a guideline of how much we would each put in our savings per paycheck. We made sure that the scheduled amount was always put in.

we save all of our change (this way we still keep something extra to treat ourselves with)

and we opened a separate account and we agreed on a minimum deposit per month that I nag the crap out of him about so that he doesn't forget and my dad holds the ATM card so that I can't dip into it. And every extra $$$ I get (engagement gifts, birthday gifts, xmas gifts) goes in too. So far so good!

We opened a savings right before we got engaged. We each put away the same amount of money every paycheck and we also put away tax return money. We also booked all our vendors early so that we could get them at a better price.
