When I had a top loader, I would start the water, add the detergent, let the water run a little bit longer and then add the clothes. I don't think you're supposed to put the detergent right on top of the clothes.
I have a front loader now and it has a section on the side to add the detergent into.

I agree, that's how I do it.

Re: poll - how do you do laundry
I like to mix the water & soap first.
I used to do it the other way and I just changed over. I don't know if it makes a difference but I like not pouring the liquid soap directly onto the clothes anymore. To me it more evenly distributes. I could be wrong, but it makes me think that.

Re: poll - how do you do laundry
well for the machines I use, there is only one way we CAN do laundry in the in my co-op building's laundry room:
Off the bat you have to load the clothes first, then lock the door.. (or else it will not start)
Then you can either put the card in to start the wash , and have the water fill up ..and add detegent after
... OR you can put the detergent in , then start the laundry, etc.. but it won't release the detergent until the clothes have been soaked anyhow

our machine instructs you to start washer, put detergent in, then clothes.
(edited--- but I don't wait for it to fill up first. Don't have the patience)

Re: poll - how do you do laundry
We have industrial machines in our laundry room (I live in a building). there's not much option - you put the detergent in, add the clothes, close the lid and add the quarters (which starts the water).
If I had my own machine (a pipe dream as of now ), I'd start the water, then add the detergent and then add the clothes.

Run the water, add the detergent, let it run a little while longer and then add the clothes. I have found that if you add the detergent last, it can stain your clothes.

Re: poll - how do you do laundry
At home, I always do clothes, detergent, turn on water. I have never had a problem with clothes being stained, but I don't use anything with bleach or extra cleaning power or whatever, LOL.
At the laundromat (still go for some things): clothes, turn on, then add detergent through thing at the top.

If you have water at the bottom, then add the soap, it gets the water nice and soapy before you put the clothes in. If you put detergent on top of the clothes, the soap doesn't mix as well.
THAT'S WHAT MY MOMMY TAUGHT ME!!!

Re: poll - how do you do laundry
I always add the clothes then the water and then the soap. I dont have patience to sit there and wait for the water to mix with the soap first. Im pretty sure FH mixes the soap and water first, but I have never had a prob with staining from the detergent.

Re: poll - how do you do laundry
A guy from the laundromat comes to my apartment... picks up my laundry... washes it for me... delivers it back the day after.
