Will you wait until after the first trimester to break the news to everyone? I've always felt that it's best (for me anyway) to wait the 3 months. I know it'll be hard, but given what just happened to my friend (she lost the baby at 9 weeks) I'm even more positive now that I'll wait to break the news....

Re: For those of you who are TTC...
I probably won't be able to hold it in from my mom but I don't know if I would tell the rest of the world right away.

Oh crap - I just realized that I had always planned on telling all of YOU as soon as I know! Well, that's a different scenario. I think it would be WAY harder for me to tell my family early and then have to break the news to them if something were to happen.

I think I would tell my online world of friends right away. My Parents, his parents and siblings will know about half way through the first tri the rest of the world will learn after its over.

I'm very superstitious about these things... so generally speaking I probably will wait until after the 1st trimester before I tell anyone.
I'd probaby tell you girls though .. since I'd have to tell SOMEONE
In my 'real life' I can only imagine telling my Mom very early on- because knowing her (and the fact she knows me TOO WELL) she'd figure it out anyhow and I think I'd like to share that time with her , since she knows better than anyone , and can especially relate to what I go through regarding my wacky cycles , and other issues that I've had my entire life

I'd probably wait until after the 1st doctor's appt to tell my immediate family and then maybe at 12 weeks for everyone else.

I'm not sure.....the first time around we told everyone at around 8 weeks and then I miscarried. Maybe we'll just tell immediate family first, but they can't keep their mouths shut.
So who knows....maybe I'll only tell my sister.

Re: Poll - How long will you wait to break the news?
With my first pregnancy (that ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks), I told my family and closest friends. To be honest, I couldn't imagine it any other way. Going through a miscarriage is so devastating and emotionally difficult - there's no way I could have made it through without the support of my closest friends and family. When I got pregnant againt the next month, I did the same - told my family and closest friends. Again, although I've made it to almost 17 weeks now, the first trimester was soooooooo stressful, so I didn't think twice about telling them because I needed the support!

I would probably tell immediate family before 3 months. BEcause no matter what happens I think I'd like their support. then we'll tell everyone else around the 3rd month.

Ditto for me. DH wanted to wait wait wait last time AND this time. Both times we didn't. The people I'm happiest to share my exciting news with are the same people I want by my side if anything were to go wrong.

Re: Poll - How long will you wait to break the news?
Well I told you all as soon as I took the EPT!! Then I told my 2 sisters - one told her daughter who is in AUSTRALIA and SHE told the rest of the family by IM!!
I can't be mad tho' cuz she was the most excited of everyone!!
Also told my 2 best friends, one is pregnant now after IUI and the other has 2 kids and knows we've been trying, knew I was going to get an HSG (which I didn't have to! Yippeee!). Mom knows now and a few more close people, but DH's family doesn't know -- he doesn't want to tell them yet so that I leave up to him. I tell who I want, he doesn't tell who he wants!
We may tell after my ultrasound if all is OK.
I agree with the people who say they need family and friend support - I have told people who would KNOW if I did miscarry becasue they wouold know there was something wrong.
Plus, I'm a HUGE big-mouth!!

I am going to tell my sisters and our parents. I will hold off for the rest of my friends and family for a little while. But I just can't seem to imagine not telling everyone immediately. I'm going to try though.

I told my immediate family right away, but I waited until the 1st trimester was over to tell everybody else.

ditto. one thing about my bil and sil that kind of stung was that they knew for a month and a half before telling parents and us. i don't know if i could hold it in and not WANT to share it with my mom and dh's mom! what if something happened? those people are who would support, so if they didn't know...i'd fall apart.

Re: Poll - How long will you wait to break the news?
I dont think I could wait. Having been PG twice, I couldnt hold it in more then 2-3 weeks for many people..immediate family I think I told in 24 hours..LOL On the positive side - when I did have my misscarriage it was comforting to have all those people who knew to be there for me, IT would have been rough to have to have told some people what was wrong and what had happened , and I mean people who would have known , so we would have had to tell ( like aunts and uncles that are close to me) what had happened...make sense?
eta- I also lost my first at birth due to pre term labor, so even if I had held out, wouldnt matter. Things can go wrong at any time in the 40 weeks. I would rather have the love and support from day one of those closest to me..but I also have a big mouth and may tend to tell too many people too much about me anyway..LOL

I had wanted to wait the 3 months - but after visiting my Dr. the first time - and discovering it was twins - I could not hold it in!!! And I'm 11 weeks and already showing - so even if I didn't say anything - its obvious my tummy has grown.

Well... I told my family the day that I knew, and I told you all here the next day. No one else knows. I am waiting to tell my friends and other people after the week 12.
