Poll - How long will you wait to break the news?

Original post by Anniegrl

Will you wait until after the first trimester to break the news to everyone? I've always felt that it's best (for me anyway) to wait the 3 months. I know it'll be hard, but given what just happened to my friend (she lost the baby at 9 weeks) I'm even more positive now that I'll wait to break the news....

I was not able to hold it in at all!!! I found out on a Friday night, Saturday I had it confirmed by the RE and Sunday I was telling my family. They would have known something was up if I didn't tell them because my mom and my 3 close cousins knew I was having insemination that month. DH lied to 1 of my cousins because she called and he told her it didn't work...we wanted to tell her in person.

The people who will know immediately:
My DH
My Officemate at work (she's TTC too)
LIW TTC friends
My sister

The people who we will wait until 12 weeks to tell:
DH's family (they can't keep a secret to save their lives).
Everyone else at work who thinks it's their business to know about my plans.
My other friends and relatives.

The people who I'm unsure about:
My parents - they are difficult to read - they may be mad that I don't tell them sooner, but they may be too overbearing if I tell them too soon.
My boss - My job is to be on my feet all day training people and if the 1st trimester is too hard, I may have to tell him.

With my first pregnancy (that ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks), I told my family and closest friends. To be honest, I couldn't imagine it any other way. Going through a miscarriage is so devastating and emotionally difficult - there's no way I could have made it through without the support of my closest friends and family. When I got pregnant againt the next month, I did the same - told my family and closest friends. Again, although I've made it to almost 17 weeks now, the first trimester was soooooooo stressful, so I didn't think twice about telling them because I needed the support!

I agree with bxgell2 (hey beth! ). I would tell close friends & family, and have them keep the secret, until we're out of the woodworks. However, having suffered a miscarriage in the 2nd trimester, I'm still skeptical about when that 'safezone' is . Honestly, I think I would keep it a secret from a lot of people for as much as possible... even if I have to deny it...I don't care if people would think that I'm fat.
