1. How much is TOO much for whole wedding?
2. How much do you think is the average?

1. IMO anything over what you can afford without going into debt is too much...
2. I think the average in Massachusetts is more like $25,000...I have no clue about NY
3. Ours is going to cost around $50,000 not including the rings, attire, HM, or rehearsal dinner...

I think long island weddings cost more than most. i originally started with a budget of 30 - 35K but unfortunately reception hall alone ended costing close to 30K!!!!

We're hoping to keep entire cost around 45 - 48K but we'll see.

I agree with you the only diff is ours is closer to 30K

I definately agree with the above statements. We are at about 33K

I think that it is all relative. If you can spend 50, 60, 70+ thousand on a wedding, then that's great! I did, and I don't think it was too much because I didn't go into debt for it and it was important to me. I'm sure what we spent was 'too much' for other people, and I'm sure somewhere, it was too little for other people. Who cares? It's YOUR wedding, whatever YOU see as being reasonable is all that matters.
It's like cars and houses. Some people prefer to spend more and CAN spend more. That's fine.

Agreed...we were given a budget of 30K and intending to stick to it! Lots of DIY projects!

1. I'd say that on LI, 50K is definitely the breaking point (elsewhere, I'd go as low as 40)

2. i think avg. runs around 30k

3. ours is at ????? no clue.

I agree. We are spending a lot - but we are paying for it ourselves and we can afford it. That said - EVERYTHING IS A FORTUNE! Just because we can afford it doesn't make me happy to spend it.

I would think it would be hard to have a full blown wedding for 100+ guests on Long Island for less than $30k. And for those girls who have done it - CONGRATS!

Long Island is expensive and everytime you tell them you are a bride or its a wedding - they double the price!

i completely agree with #1--if YOU can not afford the wedding you are trying to do--it's too much

2. i think in LI $30K is about average
3. we are spending much less than the $30K but still a LOT of money in our eyes

1 - Anything that puts you into debt, or feels like you're paying too much - is too much
2 - Spending just a little more than planned is average
3 - We're average :)

1) It's too much if you can't afford it.
2) I read something that the average is $20K or maybe a little more (I only wish mine was that much)
3) Well this depends on what you want to include....I have a spreadsheet of all expenses from STD's, vendors, rehearsal dinner, honeymoon, rings, etc. and mine total is around 75K. I know I know.....I wanted to throw up when I figured it all out.

Spending any money that comes from a loan of any form (credit cards, personal loan, borrowing from relatives with the promise to repay) is too much. If you don't have the cash on hand, or don't have the salary to pay for it - don't get it. (whatever 'it' is)

2. How much do you think is the average?
Average for Long Island, or average cost in the US? Average in the US, according to most major bridal magazines is 20K. Those same magazines say the average for this area is 40K.

3. How much is yours?
Above average for the US, below average for this area.

Too much for a wedding depends on what your budget is like. If you bring in close to a million dollars, a 100,000 wedding is reasonable. I think that anything over 50,000 is too much. I would say the aveage wedding costs between 30,000 and 45,000. Mine ended up costing around 43,000 (inc HM and wedding rings)
