POLL: Is a an MC really necessary?

POLL: Is a an MC really necessary?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to have an MC. At first I just assumed I would but then after talking to a DJ, he actually made me start thinking that maybe we don't need one. I know everyone's vision for what they want their music to be like is different, so please explain why you are or are not having an MC. For past brides that only had a DJ, did you feel it was sufficient to keep things going? I never thought this would be so hard to decide! TIA

someone told me that an mc is not necessary- it really only gives the person more time to show off - if you want to keep it low key and save money, a dj alone is fine. depends on the type of venue you want to have

See...and I heard the opposite that you SHOULD have an MC. The level of 'motivation' that he gives your guests to get up and dance is completely up to you. You can dictate to the MC why kind of atmosphere you want. I'm going with an MC

I would say yes, you should have an MC. The MC is the one who keeps the crowd going and gets people up and dancing. A DJ just stands behind the booth and spins records. From what I have been seeing with different DJ's (thats the mission I am on right now) the MC will be as high energy or low key as you want. I know we want something in between, and we will have an MC.

Im going with the MC too because it wasnt that much more money and I want to make sure that our wedding is a fun party... and that is what the MC's job is. If you just have a DJ back there, and no one is up dancing at the wedding, there is nothing much he can do about it because he can't leave where he is for too long... with an MC that wont happen!
