Re: Poll: Is sterling silver one of your registry items?
Nope, I did stainless steel. I have no interest in polishing ever!

I went with Stainless still. Polishing every time I use it does not sound fun.

Did you get these already? If so what do you think? A pain to polish or really worth it? I registered at Fortunoff tonight and there was no way I could pick out flatware in 2 hours. That wall of flatware is overwhelming.

I did Yamazaki- Tasha frosted. The picture is not so nice but the silver really is. It is frosted in the middle and polished on the edge.
I also did stainless steel for everyday but I don't have a pic of that.

I have service for 10.
I picked this pattern because my father and stepmother have had it for the last 15 years, so I guess I got attached to it...lol.
She polishes hers approx 2 times per year. But, she does use it very often. She does A LOT of entertaining. And, she always uses it on the holidays when she's the host.
Mine has been sitting in a tarnish-proof chest since July and so far, so good. Each piece came sealed in plastic, so it didn't need to be polished. But, I had 1 set that I received in March, that I took out of the plastic, so I did have to polish that set. I think it's worth it. But, I do have a stainless-steel set that I use everyday. So, that never gets polished.

We have silver on our registry - Towle Fontana. I didn't want to include it, but FMIL felt strongly that we should
We registered for service for 12, and so far we have gotten 1 setting as an engagement present.

We registered for everyday silverware since I already have my grandmother's silver... We got a great pattern from Williams Somona-- now if people will just start buying it for us, we'd be in good shape!

NO NO NO!!! Can someone please tell me why you'd buy silver? I can't imagine having to polish it with every use!!!
Oh, and this is not a bi__chy question making fun of anyone for buying it- I really don't get the benefit? Is it just prettier than stainless steel? What makes it worth it to you?

I registered for Sterling because in my opinion it looks nicer and more formal than stainless. I am registered for an inexpensive stainless set (one of those 16 place settings for $100) and then my Queen Elizabeth by Towle.

can you really tell the difference between silver and stainless by looking at it?
I've never had to polish silver after every use. I mentioned before that my stepmother uses her silver very frequently and she only polishes it a max of 2 times per year.
I can definitely tell the difference. Sterling silver is A LOT heavier than stainless steel. And, it develops a rich patina.
