Just curious out there for those of you brides having a long engagement (1 1/2 yrs. or more)...what's the reasons behind it. For FH and I, it's truly about money.
wanted to add that if we had the remainder of the cash now...i would marry him tomorrow!! but i do not want to ask my family for a dime, and is family is not in the position to help. so we have no choice but to wait. BUT...i know it will be worth it.

We will be 1 1/2 years to the day when we get married. Our parents are helping with alot of the wedding, but we needed time to save for what we are paying for, the HM, a down payment on a house, etc.
Plus I am a slow planner, so it works out
Same here!!

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
It was combination of needing the time to plan a proper wedding and needing time to save the money to pay for it all.

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
We got engaged on Dec 25, 2004 but are not getting married until June '06 ONLY because of money. We're in the same boat, we are not asking for any help and need time to save up for all of the expenses. If I could have had my real 'dream' wedding of flying down to the bahamas and getting married on the beach at sunset, I definitely would have done it back in Feb or Mar. But our moms would have no part of that, so we had to go the traditional route. IT'S WELL WORTH THE WAIT! I'm 100% sure of it!

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
We were engaged 1 year and 11 months. We were paying ourselves so we needed time to save and we also wanted to buy a house so we needed to save even more. We ended up buying a house 5 months before the wedding so it worked out perfectly that we had a long engagement.

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
ours was more timing logistics
we got engaged in december and didnt want to be rushed planning a wedding during the summer (which is what i wanted) in 6 months...from out of state
so we did it the following summer

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
Both families are paying-and we are too...so we needed time to save-it would have been 06 but FHs sister waited until I picked my date to decide she wanted it-so we waited

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
We've been engaged since 02. We waited to finish school, find better jobs, and lastly to save up money.

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
It was a combo between not having the money and needing time for the both of us to get into our careers. I have been in school and so was he. We were both working part time, can't be married w/ no one working full time. I didn't want either of us to sell ourselves short by jumping into just any job. I wanted him to be happy w/ what he was doing and I wanted to be happy with what I was doing. I would have been married to FH a long time ago, but I am happy that we waited until we were settled and had a direction.

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
we were engaged for a year and a half before the wedding.... mostly because we got engaged in january, and i wanted a june wedding, and it would've been too fast to plan it in 6 months, so we waited till the following june. another thing- we got engaged during my last year of grad school, and i wanted to work at a school for at least one school year before the wedding.... so we got married at the end of june, right after my first working school year ended

Re: Poll: Long Engagement
Were going to be engaged for 21 months before we get married. We just wanted to take our time and enjoy being engaged without thinking about the wedding.
