POLL: Make me not feel like a shlep..who is currently living with their parents?

I have my own apartment with JT in MA, but I am living with my parents for the time being, probably more like the next year. Is anyone else? I just feel like the old child who is never going to leave

FH and I both still live with our parents until after the wedding with the prices of housing now a days I don't think it is all that oncomon. I wouldn't worry about it.

i'm still livign with my parents....and wil until next february probably...i'll be 28 then. and yes, while i feel pathetic when i have to kiss them goodnight (yes i still do that) and have to be called down to dinner like a 10 year old, and tell them where i'm going and when i'll be back (can anyone say overbearing and overprotective), i know that i'm saving money by living at home and can therefore afford the wedding that i want!
and my brother is still here also so that helps....

If I was in my childhood home, I wouldn't feel so bad, it's just that when I was in MA, my parents moved into a tiny condo. And while they call it a 2 bedroom, it's more like 1 and a half bedrooms. I have a tiny twin bed in my room along with a couch and computer (it was their office). SO I just feel out of place here. And now they want to buy a bigger place, and I feel even worse like they have to get a bigger place to support their grown daughter!

I live at home, always have. I bought a home a few weeks ago and it should be ready in time for the wedding. I will move in after the honeymoon. It worked out great in my opinion. I have no reason to want to leave until my home is ready. I love my family and am very sad to leave them.

I am living with my parents. DYING TO GET OUT - but still there! I am still in school - one more year left and it definitely is much easier on my bank account living at home. FH still lives at home too, so dont feel bad. You are at home saving money and you arent going to stay there forever! You are engaged and you have a date set. Dont feel like that at all!

Ok girls(and guy!), I am feeling better. I think I am just having a hard time adjusting. My parents are so happy I am here and they keep telling me to stay as LONG as I need to, but it's just a personal thing. I haven't had to accept help from them in a long time, and so now it just feels like I am failing at keeping things together. I guess it's just going to take time.

Well, let's see....they haven't been able to use the computer in weeks....the phone rings at all hours due to me....I play my flute CONSTANTLY...I complain about the neighbors loud music and wake them up to hear it...need I go on?

We are living with his parents and we still will be after the wedding as well. Don't feel bad - it is too expensive to move out!! Live at home as long as you can get away with it!

If still living with your parents is pathetic, then I'm the Queen of Pathetic. LOL! I'm 33!

Here's what happened. I couldn't afford to move out until I was about 25 or 26. I started apartment hunting and suddenly my grandmother (who was living with us) started having funny symptoms. Turns out she was having tiny strokes. So instead of moving out, I stayed to help my family take care of her. As time went on, she got dementia (from the strokes), and her condition got worse and worse. I just couldn't bring myself to move out and leave my family with such a burden. So I stayed and stayed. It was a horribly stressful situation and environment and my nerves got completely shot, but I felt it was the right thing to do. I would have LOVED to leave, but just couldn't justify it.

She passed away in August of 2000. Two months later, I met my DH. A few months after that, I started talking about getting an apartment for myself and he told me to hold off, that it would be 'premature.' He was planning to get engaged, but I didn't know it yet.

So, here I am still with Mom and Dad at 33. ETS: We got married in June, and I'm still here waiting for the house to get ready.

Sometimes it feels a bit weird and pathetic, but if I look at it differently, I'm spending a lot of quality time with my parents. They won't be around forever, and I will one day cherish the time and memories I had with them.

Everybody's situation is different. Just because you live with your parents doesn't make you a loser or tied to the apron strings. Some people (like myself) have life situations that keep them home longer than others. What's the big deal where we all live anyway? I think it's ridiculous to judge someone by where they live.

Enjoy your time at home, and don't feel bad about it.

i do ( : of course we all dream of our indepenece...but in all honesty, i am very happy to be getting married from my home! and so are my parents! plus, theres no better way now with the cost of living! our time will come...and it will make it more special when it arrives!

I live at home and so does FI - we love our parents and don't want to leave! As much as we want to be together, we wish we didn't have to live so far away from our parents. We love our families so much!!!!

Just cause you live at home doesn't mean you're a shlep!
