POLL: Martyr or Moron - Suicide suspected at WTC site

What do you guys think of this guy?

NEW YORK (AP) -- A 25-year-old from Georgia who was distraught over President Bush's re-election apparently killed himself at ground zero.

Andrew Veal's body was found Saturday morning inside the off-limits area of the former World Trade Center site, said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

A shotgun was found nearby, but no suicide note was found, Coleman said.

Veal's mother said her son was upset about the result of the presidential election and had driven to New York, Gus Danese, president of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, told The New York Times in Sunday's editions.

Friends said Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia and was planning to marry.

'I'm absolutely sure it's a protest,' Mary Anne Mauney, Veal's supervisor at the lab, told The Daily News. 'I don't know what made him commit suicide, but where he did it was symbolic.'

Police were investigating how Veal entered the former World Trade Center site, which is protected by high fences and owned by the Port Authority.

I am also wondering how he got through all of the fences...it seems to be pretty well patrolled whenever I pass by that area...

Gimme a break ... ABSOLUTELY SURE ... I think it's sad and he was neither martyr or moron ...

I actually read this morning that its turned out that this might have been more of a 'love triangle' thing which provoked his suicide, and very little to do with Bush being reelected

Supposedly he was engaged to one girl but dating another .... here is the story from the Daily News:

Oh, I totally agree ...that's the part that doen't make sense, of course .. and I'm sure his friends/family will never make sense of it either, which is terribly sad.

I cannot see the corrolation between taking his life at Ground Zero at all. Yet I also hoped (when I heard this yesterday) that there was much more to the story than the fact he committed suicide due to Bush's re-election. Not that it makes more sense of it - he still took his life, and that is a horrible, senseless act -- but I guess it 'seems' to make more sense given his personal situations.

I'm w/you DJ....

He definitely had some issues - using the election as his excuse for suicide? Could you imagine the impact on his life if someone told him there was no Santa Claus??? It's as bad as the parents that sued Ozzy over lyrical content in his albumns back in the day. I wonder if GW will be hit w/a libel suit over this???

I was using that as an example. No sane person would do that. Anyone suicidal has something psychologically wrong with them.
