Poll: Matching vest to bridesmaids or neutral color??

What are you girls doing? I found a purple vest that matches perfectly to the girls' dresses and picked it for the guys. My sister and her husband went to get him and their son fitted today and said that I will regret having the purple matching vests because it is too prom like and not sophisticated and elegant and I should stick to black, silver, or gold. What do you think?

my girls had purple

the guys wore a black vest with a kool purple tie that dh picked. its what he wanted and he loved it!!

We matched the ties to the girls dresses...but not the vests. I had the men wear black tuxes, black vest and navy ties. The whole matching vest thing reminds me of 80's proms. JHMO!

we're going with silver. i dont want it too matchy matchy esp with yellow - it's really bright

Wow, I am surprised that the majority are against matching. I guess my sis was on to something. I'm still going to think about it though and try to find pic with matching vs. neutral. I thought it would be cute to match but maybe neutral is better?

I have to agree. We did black tuxes and had blue/white/black striped ties. Looked great with the all blue dresses the girls had.

my BM's are wearing champagne colored dresses. i know they make gold colored vests, but i think it might be too dark. I would have to see it in person to be 100% sure, but I'm not sure i like the whole guys match the color of the girls look.
i can't really do silver/pweter because the girls are in champagne so the guys might just be in black. i won't even have the ties matching

My bridesmaids wore a burgundy, wine colored dress and the guys were in champagne colored vests and ties.

I'm more of the school of thought that it should coordinate and be part of your overall wedding look, rather than perfectly matchy.

I also take issue with tuxes, with a black vest and tie - i think it's too dark. but that's just me. it's your wedding day, have a little fun with it!

well my girls are wearing black so they are matching...but in your case I would agree in saying that will look matchy matchy and prob a bit promlike.

I plan on matching and having the guys wear either pink vests or pink ties bc my colors are hot pink and a light pink. I think the bright colors will really pop off the black and add contrast and look nice!

i'm doing purple vest for the guys and the girls are wearing purple dresses. I don't think its a problem at all. I asked a friend of mine who works for a fashion designer and is a designer herself if i should do matching vest and she said it was a good idea.

We did matching but we did black dresses so it's different.

The #1 rule to wedding planning is don't listen to anyone else and do what YOU want to do. Too many cooks in the kitchen makes a stressed bride even more stressed and confused. If you LOVE the purple, do the purple. If you want the BMs dresses to be the only purple in the pictures, then do silver for the guys.


ITA!!!!! too many opinions especially this late in the game will drive you crazy..go with your first choice and let it be! Just remember, its your vision not anyone else :)

I say neutral.....but I have no BP!

Our guys are wearing suits with green ties and my MOH is wearing a green dress....but I don't like the matchy vest thing

My bm dresses are purple and I'm having the guys wear black suits with silver vests, and purple bouts

We did black vests for all- including DH. He didnt want the wedding party to 'look like they were going to the Jr. Prom'. I wasnt going to argue with him, and it looked nice.

I think it depends on the color. My girls are in eggplant and I originally picked black vests but I think I am going to go back and pick out eggplant vests for the guys. I think it's dark enough to look elegant and not stand out too much. I don't think I would do it with lavendar, JMO
