I'm taking it personally, but not professionally. I definitely didn't think of it as an 'of course' matter though. For me, it came down to having kids--I know I would want to have the same last name as my children. But, I am half through my doctorate and have articles published under my maiden name, so I decided to keep my maiden name at work and for my research.
I agree with this statement all the way. I never grew up waiting to change my name to my husband's, especially now that I am NOT FOND AT ALL of the way my name sounds with his.
Therefore, I am chaging my name to Gina Marie Maiden Married, no hyphen. My maiden will become sort of a secong middle name....
And no, I am not kidding you....

It was never a question for me. Yes, I will be taking his name but I wanted to be refered to as Mrs. VitaMarie Dunn not Mrs James Dunn. I hate that! I have my own name.

As much as I loved my maiden name, I was sooo proud to change it to my married name.......I actually love it!

ITA I hate when they call a woman Mrs. Dh's full name. I'm changing my middle to my current last name and changing my last to Fh's but I hate my middle name so this works for me.

I was thinking about doing:
Mrs. Christina Maiden Married personally and professionally keeping my name, but I would only take his name personally for the kids.
I think this decision is so hard for me because I love my name and he doesn't (and I really don't either) like his last name.
But, we agreed that our kids will have his last name.

I made my maiden name my middle name and took his name as my last name. I HATE my new name but what's a girl to do? It was very important to him and a battle I did not see as worth fighting. In reality it's just a name. You're not any more a different person than you would be if you hadn't. I think that it's a very personal choice.

I will be sad to lose my last name, because I love it. But I think it will be easier to take his last name. It is a pain to do the whole hyphenated thing. When I mentioned this to him, he didn't seem too thrilled about it.

I am half Italian and half Irish and my last name is Irish. I am so exicited about taking FH's name and actually being Italian for once. Lol. Don't get me wrong, I Love my Irish name and I will miss it.

I'm not a huge fan of his last name, so I am keeping mine and adding his, that was I can be called either....I don't know I am just so used to my name, plus I dont think I should change who I've been, I am adding him b/c he is apart of my life now. Do you know what I mean? XOXOXO Kitty
