POLL: Need Hair HELP!!!!!!!!!

Original post by eogara

Ok, so some of you saw that although my hair looked great when I left the trial yesterday, the whole style (curls and actual hairstyle) basically fell apart by 10PM last night (my reception would go until 12AM and it had started falling before I would have even gotten to my ceremony).

So, my question is this... do I stick with this hairstyle and ask her to put in more product and PRAY that it stays OR do I switch to the style below (Sarah Michelle Gellar)?

I would wear my veil all night and no tiara but this hairpin with both.

I love style #1 but i prefer hair up especially if your going to be running around all day, and when your dancing you'll be sweating and on your hair will be on your neck (annoying). I think you may be more comfortable with the other style and worry free that it will stay.

Goodluck with whatever you decide!!

was your hair squeaky clean when she did the curls - mine holds 100 times better when it is a little dirty and curly...

Also, you could do some 'testers' on a few products - put your hair up in hot rollers and use a diff product each time - make FH take you to dinner and dancing and test them out!

I say don't give up on #1 quite yet. Work with it before you go with the SMG do....

Re: POLL: Need Hair HELP!!!!!!!!!

i saw you leaving Tarale yesterday so I guess I have one up on everyone for seeing it in person! and I have to say it really did look gorgeous, but if youre gonna worry the whole night about it coming out - curls and the pins - dont do it.
I have to say, I'm in the same exact boat as you. I'm not sure if you remember how Tarale had her hair that day, but I wanted something just like that - pulled back in the middle and lose curls everywhere - but I was just so worried that by the end of the ceremony - since I will be getting my hair done HOURS before, they will all be out. So I opted with a low bun type do - like the sarah michelle gellar one. I think it is just so sleek and classy and elegant looking and I think it will look GORGEOUS with your veil! Just my very long opinion!

Hi,
I love the first one, but the only question I have is if you need to add more product to make it last longer, then will that give you a shellac look and ruin the soft flow look that I think you were trying to achieve?

I am in the same boat because my hair does not like to hold a curl. I remember during my prom (1995) that I had my hair in a curled up-do and they used so many products that my hair was rock hard. It looked cool and stayed perfectly all night 12+ hours, but my hair had a life of its own that night.

Do you plan on keeping your veil on at the reception or remove it after the ceremony? I think that could have a big effect on your hair style. The veil might weigh down your hair.
I am sorry for posting so many questions... GOOD LUCK !

THE SECOND ONE!!JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE!!! THE FIRST ONE IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE TOO MUCH HAIR PRODUCT, THEN IT STARTS TO LOOK GROSS. I WOULD GO WITH THE ALTERNATE. IT WILL DEFINATELY HOLD AND LAST ALL NIGHT

I happen to prefer an updo for formal events, but I absolutely LOVE how your hair looked at the trial. I would go back to Taralei and ask her professional opinion. Some people just can't hold a curl, myself being one of them. If she thinks that you're curls will come undone no mater what she does, than go with the bun. I would check with her, considering she's a proefssional, before making a final decision.

Your hair looked amazing, but then not so amazing. Not sure how you feel about being 'full of spray' and 'the stiff look'. I would get a trial with the SMG look and see how you feel.

Ok, I just emailed tarale and explained what happened and included the pic of the 10PM hairstyle. To be honest, I can't imagine there's something she could do so drastically that she didn't do that day to ensure that it will stay so I'm leaning toward the SMG hairstyle.

Thank you everyone for all of your help, kind words and honest opinions!!! Any more are definitely welcome. I'll update this when I hear back from her.

I love the first hairstyle, i think you should definetly do that on, maybe if you spray it once ina while during the day it will stay better.
I wore my hair down and curly and i sprayed it a few times during the day and i had no problems.

Eileen:
I thought your hair down was exquisite and LOVE your veil. However, I was not a huge fan of the combination of down, veil and that particular tiara. I cannot help but wonder if with a silk veil on all of an April night if the curls would stay. Given the classic appeal of your dress and your classic beauty, I think the clip you post with your veil and the updo would be smashing and perhaps more practical.
One compromise, have you done e-photos or casual day pix yet? If not, wearing your hair down (it is a fixed time in more predictable weather) for those might be a great option -- then you have some great prof pix of how amazing your hair looked that way without the worries of it being on the big day. Makes sense?

That's a good idea... and maybe a compromise for FH. He loved it the other day and isn't a fan of my hair being up so he's not thrilled that I may change it. We haven't done the engagement pics yet so I'll have to remember that when we do them - thanks Deb!

ok- my honest, honest opinion is i like the SMG better. while i loved the back of your hair, i wasn't a huge fan of the front and having just been through this myself, i think that you might be happier with it back. BUT-- i know that long hair has been your 'vision' so i do think it is worth at least one more shot with dirtier hair/more product.

p.s. didn't you have the SMG at my wedding?

I think the 1st hairstyle is so beautiful. And now after meeting Tara Le, dont you think she would be upset that you havent told her you were worried??? I can imagine her saying 'Why didnt you ask me???'

There is also one more thing, what do you like better?

No, my hair at your wedding was much bigger and set up rather than down.

Thank you for your honest honest opinion

Yeah, that's why I emailed her. Some stylists I would have just moved on to the other but she's definitely someone I'm comfortable with saying it didn't work, can we fix what went wrong?

I'm not sure what I like better. Like afb10304 said, I've had this long, wavy, romantic hair vision the whole time. I loved the back of it when it was done. I liked the front enough, but I hardly ever like the front (my ENORMOUS forhead has something to do with that) so I just assumed this was another of these.

Why is this so hard?????????

ok-- what if you pull the top straight back into the hair clip and then start the curls

I love that look on other people but it just draws attention to the size of my forhead and that's not something that I'm looking to display.

Well I think when you say that you have envisioned long, wavy, romantic hair for your wedding, that's it. You made your decision.

See what she says, I am sure she will help you feel better about it all.

You could probably sweep the top over to one side to cover a portion of your forehead. (I have Big Forehead issues too, so that's what I had to do.)

I just love love love love the first style and would hate to see you give up on it without having a second trial.

I like the first one.
I wore my limp hair curly & at the trial my hairdresser didn't spray it, so that we could make changes during the trial process, but for my wedding she shellaced it-- it stayed until the morning.

a clip will proabably help it stay more that just hair pins too.
