For BTDT moms and moms-to-be, what are you doing, working outside the home or staying at home? DH and I discuss this a lot, and since we don't own a home yet, we are probably going to give that up for now so that I can stay home. We are looking for a 2BR co-op so we can pay the mortgage on one salary. But, if we did want to own a home, I would definitely have to work. For now, I think we're willing to sacrifice, but as our children get older and are in school full-time I will probably work so that we can afford nicer things. I know LI is different from other parts of the country in terms of needing 2 incomes.

Re: Poll: SAH or WOTH
Nina-
We are considering the same exact thing. We have been looking for a house but with the prices being so exorbitant & my having been pregnant, we have been holding off. And now we are considering holding off further so I can stay home too which would pretty much be impossible once we make a home purchase. I will initially go back to work in January though and then we will decide. Thank God between DH's schedule & my Mom, it's not like we have to put Luke in daycare when I go back, which right now seems like the most ridiculous thought imaginable. It's really such a personal decision there are pros and cons to both.

Re: Poll: SAH or WOTH
def will have to be a WOTH...but I also feel that the RIGHT daycare is not a ridiculous choice. Many of our friends and fam have had their children in dyacare- weither for a short time or a lengthy time...and the socailizastion that occurs there is great! as is the instruction and learning curve. Again, it has to be the RIGHT fit... My cousins both stayed at home with thier kids...one eventually went back to work after the kids were old enough...and well, honestly, (pardon me here) but they weren't any better off...or better behaved or better loved than those who went to daycare. (just my experience)

Re: Poll: SAH or WOTH
I was certainly not implying that a child in daycare is ridiculous in general but rather that when I think of actually doing it myself, that is the feeling I get about it. Again, it's a personal decision. I have friends/family that are all currently doing different things - one in daycare, one a SAHM, one has her child cared for one-on-one so I agree it's about the right fit. It's definitely worth soliciting opinions but remember that they are just that: opinions

I am a SAHM and I wouldnt give it up for anything. Yes you have to cut back on the spending and xmas isnt going to be what it has been in the past but watching my 5 month old daughter learn new things and grow is worth more to me than any pay check could ever be!
