I have 2 weddings to go to in the fall. One is my cous9n, one is FH's cousin. I bought a gown for my cousin's wedding over a year ago. I alos have shoes. The only problem is that I have a bad back, and usually I have to wear sneakers. I've gone to weddings and worn shoes before, but I end up in a lot of pain, and that when my back isn't flaring up, if it is, then I basically have to wear sneakers.
the gown is very elegant it's a floor length strapless black velvet ballgown. Do you think maybe I should just not worry about it, considering that no one will probably see my feet anyway?
ETA: I know how horrible I will look in sneakers, and I'd never even suggest it otherwise..

Re: Poll: Sneakers to a wedding?
I would get comfortable flats. Alot of people in my bridal party did this and it looked fine.

Re: Poll: Sneakers to a wedding?
i said to look for other options than sneakers
it's not such an issue for your cousin's wedding, i'm sure your family understands your pain, but from what you have posted about FH's family and you, it may not be the best idea to give them an avenue for criticism. Not that you should have to be in pain to satisfy a bunch of jerks, but maybe there's something more comfortable that can serve as a happy medium

Re: Poll: Sneakers to a wedding?
I would search hi and low for comfortable flats. I see a lot of women wearing those slippers with the beaded tops - can you wear those?
Depending on how bad it is just to wear shoes - if I could, I would just wear shoes and sit as much as possible (no dancing & sending DH to get drinks, etc.)
As a last resort, I might consider getting ked type sneakers and dying them to match the gown so they don't stand out.

Have you tried Aerosoles or Easy Spirit? Their shoes are comfortable and they make some dressy ones.

I would say buy comfortable flat or low-heeld shoes/sandals that are dressy enough for the gown. Keep your sneaks in your car just in case... maybe even bring those isotoner slippers.

I don't think sneakers are appropriate for a wedding. There are tons of nice flats sold now, adn also nice flip flops. You can also get some ballet slippers or ballet flats. There are so many options these days.
If you need to bring the sneakeres. You can always wear them if you need to, but I woudl wear other shoes and leave them for a last resort.

My grandma got those for my wedding! She bought 3 pairs of shoes! The same ones as me, dyed to match her dress, for the ceremony & pictures, and then beige chinese slippers & satiny regular slippers for the reception. I guess she will see which shes prefers.
I thought that was cute. She wanst to be comfy, but still appropriate.
ETA: I use zappos alot. Hushpuppies makes comfy dresy shoes, and they sell them on Zappos.
and maybe a dr. scholls insole or something will help, my absorbing shock & being squishier.

cute shoes!
Yeah, I mean I guess i could get flats or those beaded shoes (wearing a pear right now), but they're still sort of bad because they don't giove the support I need for my back. I guess everyone must suffer for beauty. I absolutely cannot wear heels (which sucks becuase those are all I have, and for good reason- I'm 5'2). Don, you make an excellent point about my in laws. I guess I have a bunch of weeks to search for flats. So you really think those chinese shoes will be ok? Maybe I can get like, some beaded black flip flops or something, and just sit down as much as possible. It's still not the best (I'm the kind of person who gets dressed to the nines for weddings), but it'll blend a lot better than sneakers. Thanks for the opinions! I'm going to check out all of those options.

thanks -- i wanted to make it clear that i don't think you should have to suffer in pain to please your in-laws. My point was, if you can avoid giving them an open forum for criticism. you should explore all options. In the end, if the other shoes don't work out and you need to wear sneakers, they'll have to deal.

I really dont think it matters... If you have to wear sneakers b/c of your back, people are going to understand. Your health is more important. You shouldnt wear shoes if that means you are going have back pain....
