For me, most importantly one wedding at a time, on the water, with excellent food and service (in that order).

I would say all of the above.. Most importantly- aesthetics, food and reputation.

I also wanted to say- I have seen some of your posts about NYC venues.. we looked in the city first- we were dead set on the city- for us and our friends- much easier to plan, etc. But after looking here, then out on LI just to see- you get so much more for your $$- more food, more space, outdoor areas.. just passing along on my experience..

We wanted something different and that would be unique... that was what was most important followed closely by the quality of the food.

I totally agree about LI - If I were having a spring or summer wedding I'd DEFINITELY be there. I just figured since we want to get married in a cold season, the city views might be nice instead of being outside.

We'll see how it is when we check it out this weekend. I keep getting such a disparity in price quotes that I don't think I will know what's really accurate until I get there and actually see what we GET for our money . . .

I think they are all important but, its what you can afford.

I think the most important thing to me was Elegance & getting married at a place where many of my guests had not been married before. But I had a long list of must haves! We did not look at many places on LI, just the Bourne and Okeha. We choose the Bourne because of the Water and because although Oheka is a castle and the grounds are great - the inside reminded me of a lot of other catering halls I had been to.

ditto although we werent that focused on the food - the fact that it was great was a bonus!

Oh there are so many things, but actually being able to picture my wedding there became the most important to me.

Also depending on your situation you'll probably have to take into account that what is most important to you may not be the same for your parents...you might love it, but they don't think the food or reputation is up to par...I guess it depends on the situation.

one wedding at a time, how well they accomodate what you want. (which goes hand in hand) and then food.

A lot of the bigger wedding caterers don't freely change up the menu or the way things are typically done. the catering halls that are one wedding at a time can focus on only you. But you pay more $ for that extra attention too.

I really wanted 1 wedding at a time, and I wanted good serivice, but the beauty of the place and the general layout sold me. it just felt like THE place and I could imagine having my wedding there. i fell in love with it.

i really wanted a special ceremony room and one wedding at a time..i was afraid to have it outside because of my horrible luck and the ceremony room at carlyle blew me away!!
