POLL: Where's my 2005 girls? This one's for you....

Ok, so I am just curious, more so for us who have been engaged for a while....Why are you waiting till 05 to get married? I'm just nosey and bored For us it was a combo of money, and just wanting a long engagement. Plus, we kind of fell in love with the date and the fact that it was a Sunday night with a Saturday night feel because the holiday is the next day.

I wanted to wait until I finished grad school and started working off some of the payments. I just graduated this month. So spreading out the wedding payments was a huge issue!

We just wanted to wait. My FI knows that I'm picky and knows how girls just dream about their wedding date (he has 6 sisters, lol) wanting to be perfect or at least close to it.

I just wanted to space it out too. I mean, we figured we're going to be together regardless, so why not take the time and do it right? I mean, looking at this question, I realize there are girls getting engaged NOW getting married next year and that's not a long time to wait, but I've been engaged since Dec 2002, and I know there are lots of girls here in the same boat, so I was just wondering

It's totally understandable. I think that rushing things unless you need to (I mean someone sick or something). It's adding so much weight on your shoulders.

I put other because we got engaged in August and looked at our budget/cash flow and figured a 17 month engagement was the perfect amount of time for us to save the cash we needed. We didn't want to rush and go into debt for one (although very important) day!

Hi all, im new to this website, and i LOVE IT. you guys are awesome, and sooo funny. anyway i got engaged on this past christmas eve, 2003. ive always wanted a november wedding, and this november just seemed too close! so we picked november 11, 2005 at the Jericho Terrace. We unintentionally ended up with veterans day and we are actually so excited cause a lot of people will be off anyway! (its a friday night.. cant believeee the difference in price!) One of the major factors was $, but just the fact that i want to enjoy every bit of planning and the excitement ahead of us! i look forward to future posts!!!! take care!

It was the only time we could it, mainly for
money reasons. we definitely couldn't do it this summer since it was just too soon and we wouldn't have the money. then we can't do it anytime from Sept-May since I am going to be starting school again (hopefully) and I wouldn't be able to get away for a honeymoon so we figured summer 05 would be the best choice. I was even contemplating summer of 2006 but I just couldn't wait

I voted money, though it was a combination of that, graduating from grad school (I'll be done in May), and moving from San Diego to NY to do the planning! FI moves to the city at the end of this month :o( until I join him in June :o) Oh! And add to that the fact that I'm hoping to get a job teaching and wanted to get married when I'd be off on summer break!

My FI lives in New Jersey and is moving here in June. I am so excited to not have a long distance relationship. Even though it is not far, it is tough. But we waited bc we spent all of our money this past summer fufilling a dream, we traveled cross country. So I voted money.

First - i just want to say congrats to all the new 2005 brides - three new girls just from this thread alone!!!

And in response to the question - I had to finish law school - and of course it is great that we get a chance to save up money and really have the wedding of our dreams!

I guess its a bunch of things. My FH is going for his MBA and his company out here in CA is paying for it. If he leaves now he'll have to pay for the rest of it, and he'd rather hang on until he graduates in August. Hopefully we'll be moving back to NY soon after that (keeping fingers crossed that he finds a job quickly in NY).
We wanted to pick a date when we figured that most likely we'll be back in NY. We didn't want to be living out here, fly to NY for the wedding and then have to fly back here again. Also, we wanted a June wedding and we figured that since we got engaged in July 2003, that didn't give us enough time to plan a wededing for June '04 (especially doing it from 3,000 miles away). We picked June 18 (his favoite number), 2005 and with the way the planning is going and how stressed I am being all the way over here, I'm sure glad that we did!

We got engaged on November 1, 2003 and we decided to wait until July 3, 2005 to get married mainly due to money. We are inviting almost 295 people so we need to save. We also wanted to take our time planning and enjoy all of the attention.
If we were rich we probably would have done it this year but...
