I find that in a lot of families, one side is just nicer, or more hospitable or more supportive. This REALLY comes out at the wedding time. Also, it seems like sometimes one person becomes part of the other person's family more so than vice versa. With me and FH, my family is SOOO much more supportive, and he's considered part of MY immediate family and I could never feel like part of his (as in his parents, etc).

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
My family has def made my fiance feel like the son they never had. His family has had their moments...I love them. But I see what you mean.

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
I would say we're both pretty lucky. My family is thrilled to be getting the son they never had and I'm close with FH's family too. It's weird, we've discussed if we'll ever call each others parents 'mom' and 'dad' and neither of us are too comfortable with that. I guess time will tell.

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
I voted both, but my family is definetly the closer more in-touch. His family is very nice -- but on his Mom's side there are some people I could live without. His father's side is HUGE, but always super nice. And his sister's run hot and cold.

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
though i think both families are pretty good, i think that fh's family has generally been a lot more excited than mine. his aunt and uncle in nyc took his new york/ new jersey family members out to dinner to celebrate our engagement, and when we went down to florida to visit his parents they also took us out to celebrate. and more than that, everyone is always to excited to hear about our wedding plans! it just makes me feel warm and fuzzy about becoming part of his family. meanwhile, what has my family done so far? nothing! i mean, my mom is paying for the wedding, so of course that's a huge SOMETHING, but i couldn't help but be hurt that people didn't make a bigger deal of the engagement. no one asks about the plans, nothing. i think part of it has to do with the fact that i have a much older brother and sister, both of whom are married with kids, so my getting married is sort of just viewed as old hat. i told my mom that i was a teensy weensy bit hurt, not to mention a little embarrassed, that fh's family was so excited for us and that my family didn't so much as raise a toast for us. she actually agreed with me, and i think she's planning something now, but part of me is still a little upset...

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
I think that they are both ok. His family has welcomed me in very much as has mine. The only thing is that I spend more time with them than he does mine and my mom has a language barrier but she tries and she really does love him!

MY FMIL is anything but supportive but her exhusband makes up for it in so many amazing ways! I'm so glad to see that a lot of brides voted for both!!!

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
A lot of his family is VERY welcoming, but because I can't stand his aunt and his cousin they shot their chances down BABY!! I love my family, they are not judgemental and we are so down to earth
but I love his family too

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
We are very lucky. Both of our families are welcoming towards us and towards each other. We even go out to dinner just the 8 of us (me, FH, our sisters (2) and both set of parents)
I am so grateful to have wonderful parents

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
Definitely mine--when we got engaged, we received a few gifts (very unexpected) from my side ONLY---nothing from his, not a call, not a card from an aunt or cousin... nothing.......It was a little hurtful but I came to realize as nice as they are--they're just not as hospitable as mine so there really isnt a comparison......and by far......he is Very welcome in my family--he also sees my family a lot more than we see his......

I would say they're equally warm. Especially since the wedding is coming soon I've noticed both sides and they're not making me too crazy!

Re: POLL: Whose family is nicer/more welcoming?
definately fh's fathers family... they have been the most welcoming and supportive out of everyone..... i also feel lucky to have supportive fmil &* ffil.....
then my family has been supportive on some things, depending on if they agree or notand fh's mothers family doesnt even care to ask how we are(outside of grandparents)...

My family is great, but FH's family is WONDERFUL. His mom is so good to us and very helpful.
