Did everyone's reception hall INCLUDE an open bar, or was it extra? It just seems odd to me these days that it wouldn't be included. Maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about!

Mine is included, as is the dessert cordial bar. The only thing I would have to pay extra for is if I wanted a caviar & vodka bar... but I am sure the cost would not be for the vodka

i think at all the places we inquired about it was open bar. i think if you don't want open bar, you have to let the hall know - in NY an open bar is 'standard' but not in a lot of other places

open bar with top shelf liquor. You should be getting top shelf. Not what they have under the bar. The 'generic' stuff I call it.
I went to a wedding in LI that told the couple they would serve top shelf. FH went up 2x to get a rum and coke and the rum was 'generic' rum. He HAD to ask for the Bacardi in order for them to give it to him. Needless to say we will never book that place for an affair.
In other states cash bar is something that is done. Also I have heard beer, wine and soda only. My folks went to a wedding in NJ that they did cash bar.
