POLL:What do you think of home made invites?

POLL:What do you think of home made invites?

I know they say that the invite dictates the formality and overall tone of the affair. Do you think that if you saw invitations that someone had made at home on the computer, you'd be more inclined to think it was an informal affair and dress more casually, or bring a cheaper gift?

i would never give a cheaper gift b/c of an invitation! i think i would maybe think it was less formal - but i really dont know. why dont you try them out and see how they come!!! you never know!

made invites were semi home made i had a printer print the actual text and the reply card and then added a real sand dollar to it and placed the text on a wavy corrugated paper background. the printer cost was cheap. i've gotten so many compliments. i spent 330 on invitations including stamps and supplies like a paper cutter.

i'll post a pic tomorrow.........

good luck

There are some invites that you cannot tell are homemade. I think nsgraham was the one that posted the most amazing homemade invites.
I just got a homemade invite for the shotgun wedding. OY! I don't think this has sunk in yet.

I am thinking about homemade invites. I really think that they can be formal depending on the paper used. I am going to try to go to one of those fancy paper stores in NYC.

I just received a homemade invite, and it's one of the best I've ever seen. You can tell she spent many hours on these invites, and the paper quality is incredible. If they are done right, there is no difference.

Some of them come out really good. I was going to do that, but sometimes it adds up to what you would be paying anyway with the print cartridges. If you are good with that sort of thing then do it. Invitations are paper and people throw them out so I wouldnt worry

Re: POLL:What do you think of home made invites?

I think the 'less formal' implication is crap .

My invitations were hand made by me and my BMs and all of my mother's friends thouht they were professional! They were hand made paper-style with velum overlays and we used twigs and ribon to afix the vellum to the paper. The envelopes were from Kate's Paperie in NYC but also hand made, and I used a wax seal on the outside. They would have cost me over $5 a piece to get them from a company that makes invitations by hand...so I saved more than $200 by doing it myself..and I got to design it.

I am seriously considering doing my own - I have the right equipment, so why not. Although I am doing them early enough so if it turns out to be too stressful, it isn't too late to order.

I've actually heard that the style of your dress sets the tone for the wedding.

Depending on which Michael's that you go to, they have a nice selection of kits - all different styles.

The nicest invitation I ever saw was handmade.

The envelope was filled with hay, and when you pulled the invitation out there was a poem on the front about finding your soulmate, and how it is like 'finding a needly in a haystack.'
When you opened the invitation, there was a needle threaded through the invitation and underneath it said 'our search is over.'

I got tearyeyed when I saw it. The only wedding invitation I remember vividly.

I got paper from www.paperdirect.com and printed them myself. Although there is nothing special about it, I have gotten lots of compliments...

Grrr can't get the picture posted of the invite...

I think they can be as beautiful if not more so then store bought invites! The invite would never impact the gift I gave someone.

I considerd it, but thought it was too informal. My shower invites were nice, but they were from a kit & obviously the vellum was printed on a computer. They were tied with ribbon to pressed flower paper. Great for a shower, but I think too casual for a wedding.

My coworker on the other hand made elaborate booklet invitations with all the directions & stuff inside & they looked very professional. But she is a graphic designer on the side.
they were a little informal, but that was mostly her (intentional)choice of graphics, not the style of invitations.

That's really cute, but It hikn I'd be annoyed If I opened an envelope with hay! How messy!

If they look very homemade I don't like it! I recently received my first homemade wedding invite and my inital reaction was 'she totally made these herself!' I didn't think they were very well done either. But that doesn't mean that all homemade invites look that way, but so far, in my experience, I am not impressed. This person had a very casual wedding in a restaurant, they didn't even have music. So I guess the invite was fitting to the affair.

if its macaroni glued to a piece of construction papaer, then yes, i would say its tacky and a low-key affair. we plan on making our own invites and i really don't think it makes the wedding less formal.
