Poor FSD

Original post by MikesBride2B

Today in the car waiting for the bus we were talking about my shower...and she said 'When I first heard about it I thought that people would be getting you, me and daddy presents, but then I found it its just you...that's not fair' and she had these little puppy dog eyes.

I told her it wasn't like I was getting things only I wanted...that its mostly things that will help us have a better life, like things to cook and clean with and plates and stuff. I told her she wasn't missing anything and she seemed to feel a little better.

I had bought a flowergirl jeweled decal to iron onto a shirt to have her wear the morning of the wedding to get ready in and was going to give it to her at the RD...but I think I will do it sooner and give it to my mom so I can give it to her at the shower...that way she doesn't feel so left out and she can feel like a part of everything. Good idea??

hmmmmmmm

do you guys give her something to open on yours or fh bday?

i know it can be hard for kids to understand or watch others opening gifts but they need to understand that not everything is going to be about them.

its not like youre leaving her out at the rd. you got her something super cute!!!

dont hate me.

god, im gonna be such a bad mommy.lol

Honestly, in general I totally agree with you...and this is a kid who is already spoiled beyond spoiled with presents from my nutso FMIL.

But this kid has been through a lot and is having a really hard time adjusting to all the newness of everything...I would never be like 'Its my shower, so you get a toy!'...I like the shirt because it is something related to the wedding, which makes her feel included because in a small way, the wedding is about her as well...I'm marrying her as well as FH.

Otherwise, I'm seriously a strong supporter of tough love...I'm terrible. If she falls and hurts herself and starts wailing and crying...I check to see if its serious and if its not I don't make a fuss. I say 'Are you dying?' and usually she'll sniffle and say 'no' but sometimes she's crazy histrionic and says 'yeeeees' in which case I say 'Okay, lets go to to hospital' or 'Alright, we'll miss you'...she gets over it pretty quick.

Okay this is way too much about my parenting philosophy...the short answer is 'I agree with you' LMAOOOOO

You sound like GREAT mom!!! And trust me I know a bit about parenting with three kids ages 17, 13 and 9. It is a great idea to give her the shirt. I did a similar thing for my daughter. I had a 'maid of honor' shirt made up that she wears when I drag her to all things wedding related because she kept getting annoyed at everyone assuming she was a flower girl.
