Portraits at Reception

Portraits at Reception

There is a photographer, Peter Doyle, who sets up a black background at the reception and takes group portraits, or maybe his assistant does this. Does anyone know of any other photographers who do this? I really like this idea.

Would this be in addition to your regular photographer? If its not, then I don't know if its such a good idea, but if it is, you could sort of set it up like a photobooth thing but only with a live photographer.

I honestly love the idea. I have seen this or lets say hear of this at someone's wedding that was $$$$. You need a entire CH to do this though because you need a extra room or large cocktail room to setup lights and a black tarp. As couples come in / guest come in you snap a portrait. Its really amazing.. just think of going to medieval times but obv. much nicer.

You can than as favors send them the portrait (put a note on table or inform them that the picture is their favor). And you get a album of the people of your wedding.

Of course the person who i heard did this had a army of photographers at her will. She had the portrait photographer with lighting assistant. One photo journ, one std photographer, videographer and two photo assistants. A bit much but i heard it was soo amazing the pics.

wow that sounds a bit over the top!! This guy is very reasonably priced, alot more so then others i have seen girls talking about on here, so that is a good thing. also, from what he told me, they don't need a large space at all....just a small area big enough to fit the backdrop and a couple lights. However, I am sure that people have had much more elaborate setups for somthing like this....i can only imagine. but i agree, it makes for some great pics that you would not get otherwise.....and even great favors but i wonder what you give the guests that dont do a picture lol

I would ask a LOT of questions b4 I would agfree to this. You don't want to miss an opportunity to take pics with your DH. It might be worth checking into. Coudl you have 3 photographers to make sure nothing is missed?

My photog offered this. But he doesn't take the pics. It is set up so that the guests can take the pics themselves. They just press a clicker and done! We didn't do it b/c we just didn't think it necessary. But it seemed really cool and the pics that he showed us taken that way looked like people have a great time taking pics of themselves!! lol.

I've seen this done before at a wedding and honestly, I think it takes away from the wedding. So many ppl interested in taking their portraits that there was actually a line forming.
I would definitely get more information before considering something like this.

Thanks Audreygirl. I'm going to contact Roberto, he seems really great. Its even better that the guests can shoot the pics themselves. Won't need an assistant to watch over it. I think the pics would be so much more fun than those stiff group shots.
