Posing for Pictures

Posing for Pictures

Does anyone else hate the way they look in pictures? I hate the way I look in pictures when I have to 'fake' smile. I don't know if anyone else has this problem (probably not LOL) but I was hoping for some suggestions on how to make my pics look more natural. We will be taking our epics soon and I don't want to look silly.

So if you have any suggestions/advice please share. TIA

I have the EXACT same problem. I always hate the way I look in pics. My friend said to smile really big, otherwise, it looks like I'm not even happy. :)

most photographers help with this. My photographer told us how to pose and helped while we were taking pics. For e-pics its good to get to know your photographer and always to learn how to pose. Some do give more directions than others but most should help you with this.

You can practice in the mirror

You can smile to ur FH while having pictures taken...or walk and talk. Ummm have him pick you up.....give each other kisses. Look at pictures from online or magazines.

I have the same problem. That's why we had 2 photographers. One of them kept posing us and the other one took photos when we weren't looking. Those came out the best.

you may want to consider photojournalistic style as opposed to traditional - they're more like candid shots and they come out very natural (if you have a good photographer) -- i think the trend now is to go with photojournalistic styles but older folks may appreciate the other style more ...

goodluck!

I have the same problem... BUT...so did my MOH.
She got married 2 years ago (past LIW bride!)

Her photog gave her a tip that helped her and she passed it along to me and now I use it all the time.

Its going to sound silly but trust me... it works.

Right before the photog takes the pic.. say 'Hi' in your head or very low, almost like a secret and then you will usually smile...naturally.

We usually smile when we say 'Hi' so our brains are like tricked into giving a natural smile.

Try this a few times. It sounds and feels a little weird but thats what got me through my E-party and my E-pics.

I hope this helps!

That is a great tip. I just tried it at my desk and it worked. I don't know what I look like because there's no mirror, but it def made me smile. Thanks.

By the way your epics were amazing. I will be happy if mine come out half as good as yours.

That's good advice! I like it. What i did also was, i definitely practiced in front of the mirror a little bit. Like seeing what my best side is, which angles make me look gross, how NOT to smile. haha. It helped!!

I've been practicing in the mirror and I think that is making it worse. LOL. I'm just self concious about my smile, everyone else says I'm crazy but I'm just more comfortable taking the pics then being in them.

I don't want the cheezy 'posed' typed pictures, I def. want photojournalistic but you still have to smile. LOL

when either one of us smiled in our e-pics it was ONLY when we were talking to eachother and laughing and smiling. Our photographer never asked once just smile, she would tell us to interract with eachother or tell Dh to make me laugh. Depends on your photographer though. So when it comes to candid photojournalistic pics, if you look at others e-pics that are like this, youre going to notice that when theyre smiling in the pics, its when they were talking to eachother and more like they're laughing. They capture an actual moment going on.

That's true. Like you said before, it all depends on how good your photographer is.

you'll be fine dont worry. We all worry about the pics but they all turn out great. Just go in there thinking 'YAY this is going to be fun' dont think about 'omg how am i going to smile' just wait for photographers direction and only think about it then.

I think the best thing for people who have the same issue is to get a photogrpaher who is good at capturing real moments rather than posed ones. this way you can just play around for the epics and the phtog can just keep snapping and get real emotions and moments.
