Hello ladies!! I am a newbie - just been reading here for a few days and you all seem very wonderful! FH and I were engaged on New Year's Eve and we are now in the process of picking a date and a venue...I would really like to have a wedding in 2010 but I am not sure if its possible to have a wedding of 75-100 guests planned in 6 months? I have April 2011 now only because our 5 year anniversary is that month..
Is it possible to plan a wedding in such a short amount of time? Also, where should I start with searching for RHs? Bridal shows? calling and making appointments?
Thank you ladies!!

I think it is possible :) but just keep in mind finances. If you have the money and you have family helping you, it will work. Good luck!

Go to the reception guide on this website and from then on start narrowing down your RH choices from the $ per person. Definitely know if you want it in nassau or suffolk. Make sure you get your dress asap and get the bridal party to get their outfits too. Book appointments with florist, photographers and dj's ASAP! You have a lot of work to do my dear. You need to start doing your research from tonight so that you can make your phone calls tomorrow. The earlier you get everything done the better off you are.
Yes, a wedding can be planned in 6 months or less, you just have to make sure you research all your vendors properly, and ofcourse make sure you have all the funds to pay for it, because weddings aren't cheap, especially in new york.
check out this review from a bride that had a spectacular wedding in which she planned in 6 months:

thank you! that is a great wedding! Yes, the finances are pretty much almost there..I'm lucky that FH and I have pretty good jobs so we can use part of our savings for the expenses. I am just worried that most 2010 dates would be booked. I am open to having a wedding on any day, Thurs through Sunday..
guess I have a lot of calls to make!!

Re: Possible to plan wedding in 6 months or less?
its def possible. but you need to get on the ball like NOW!! If we had all the money sooner we would have done it sooner.
You just have to do it all in double time... like super crunch! but you can def do it.
do you have a venue and a dress? that's DEF first on the list. they can rush order dresses for you. And you may even get a discount on a venue since you are booking so close to the date. then florist and entertainment. You can work on the little little details like menu's and programs and favors towards the end, if you want those things.... they are optional... nice touch not absolutely necessary but a really nice touch and if you have time then do it.
also as soon as you get the details (location, timing, etc) ironed out.... start working on invites. You do want to send those out approx 2 to 3 months ahead of the date. you have to give them time to get the invite and respond. your rsvp date should be about 1 month prior to your wedding date.... to give you time to track down the non responders (sooo annoying) and then do your seating. Then dont be surprised if people drop out and add on the week of the wedding and you have to redo the seating last minute!!!
it can def be done.... but start now and just keep moving until you are done with it all.

Re: Possible to plan wedding in 6 months or less?
its doable...my gf did it last year... and she wasn't as stressed as i thought she would be...
figure out how much you want to spend pp on a hall and that will narrow your list down- def use the planning link up top to look for RH's.
we are trying to get married in oct 2010 and yes the dates are dwindling down but there are still plenty out there anddd the prices are alot lower at least 10-20 dollars pp at the places ive looked
and then you better get on the dress bandwagon!!! ive been looking since november and havent found anything yet
good luck!!! and we're all here to help!

Yes it is possible. I got engaged in mid-november and took the planning process very slowly due to non-stop holidays and such.
the most important thing is set a date, time and place. look and venues, and book one right away. then you'll make everything else fall in place when it has too. If you don't get stressed or anxious easy and/or you have a big budget, you'll be fine. if you are on a tight budget or worry a lot... it's hard. still possible but hard.

Re: Possible to plan wedding in 6 months or less?
We got engaged on 1/16/09 and married on 7/18/09.
It's totally possible and was a great experience. I had a blast planning, even if it was in that short period of time.
If you want any details the order I did things, let me know. To start, #1 is figure out a total budget that's feasible. #2 is to write a preliminary guest list so you know about how many people (and make sure your minimum is way lower than the # you are inviting). #3 is book a RH.
From there, everything else is very easy to do. You get some great deals from vendors planning on short notice (we got deals from our photog, videographer, limos, and a bunch of others).
Good luck planning & congratulations!

Re: Possible to plan wedding in 6 months or less?
wow, thanks for all the suggestions!! I will be calling Douglaston Manor tomorrow to make an appt - or maybe stop by there during my lunch hour to see it myself. Also going to look at Swan Club, Sans Souci, Leonards and Westbury Manor...I am flexible w. dates, ideally anything from JulyAug 2010 to December 2010...my dress may be a check, my mom offered to give me her dress, I just have to try it on to see if it fits on me! Bridal party is taken care of for now. Invitations, FH said his sister could help us out on that end since she worked as an event planner a few years back..
FH suggested Floral Terrace or Inn at New Hyde Park? Anyone familiar with these 2 halls? They are very close to where we live...are they places that I should look at too?
keep the suggestions comin!! this is great!

Have you tried May 31st ( memorial day) or May 9th (Mothers's day - my wedding date), and also Fahter's day ( June 20th). Those days are cheaper and most places still have them. How about July 2nd.
I am sure a lot of RH's still have many dates available.

It is definately possible. The sooner you book your RH to the date the better it is for you. They will negotiate more when the date is closer because they woud rather sell it cheaper than not make any money for the date. As the other girls said...book your photographer and video ASAP....the good ones book up quickly.
Congrats and good luck

Re: Possible to plan wedding in 6 months or less?
My coworker just booked her wedding for May 2010 last weekend and got an amazing deal because she booked so close to her date. She also has meet with many vendors today, and to my surprise everyone that she wanted to look at was still available on her date. The only downside that I can see is that you may need to take a day or two off of work to secure your vendors - making multiple meetings in one day is the best option with a short time frame.
Top things to work on when you finally book are dresses (yours and bms) and invitations because they take the longest and need to be in before the wedding date.
Best of luck and congratulations!!!!

Re: Possible to plan wedding in 6 months or less?
It totally is. I planned my whole wedding in about 3 months. The one thing I would be worried about, though, is the dress. Do that first if possible. Then do the RH as you can't book any vendors until you know the exact date and if you're open about any week in April, then it's super important to start looking now so you get the RH you want.
As far as a timeline goes, find one or just a general list of all the things you need to do and rather than wait to do things in one month or another, just make a beeline through the list and get it all done as your schedule allows.
Just don't get caught up on too many details or unnecessary purchases and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Its absolutely possible, just keep in mind that you may not have your first (or even second) choice in vendors since they may already be booked for your date.

It is absolutely possible. It is jsut a lot of work. I have had many friends that have done their in 6 months or less. you just have to make sure you can afford it. We wanted to do it in 2010 but coudlnt; due to finances. You can't waste much time though, that's the only thing! Good luck!!!

def possible but remember dates book up fast so you have to be flexiable. Dress would need to be rushed ordered so that adds to the cost. But halls will give you a better deal if you are booking for this year
