so FH and I had to help out his parents with a very large sum of money because they went into forclosure. My biggest frustration is that they didnt say they were in trouble at all. 8 months later they have 2 weeks to get out and penalties up the a$$. FH took his savings and helped them out. Paid the 8 months past due plus 2 months to get them on their feet so they wouldnt loose their house. Now its been 2 months since this happened and FH and I are having some problems of our own now. We are thinking that we may even have to postpone our wedding
Our date is set for Dec 4,09 but we just dont know if we can do it? FH just got a greAt job working for Food Network cooking and working with some of the famous chefs on TV in the city so there may be a chance we can catch up now but its just very stressful as of right now. We have an appointment with our catering hall on Tuesday to discuss some options. Maybe postpone until May or June. The problem is that rates are gonna be higher that time of year. What do you think the average plate is in May or June?

So sorry this is happening to you. I Think its like 20$ more a head for May/June. Can you cut your guest list? Sounds like FH has a great new job and I think it will all work out. Did you get any upgrades for your wedding in Dec? maybe you can cut those out.

Yes were gonna start cutting our guest list. Our guarentee is 115. I think we have like 140. lol
The only upgrade we got was a cheesecake bar but I think the threw that in our total cost

first off that was SUPER sweet what you and your FH did to help out his parents.
i know some halls have lowered there prices b/c of the economy. .maybe u can get a deal with a hall even for this year at a cheaper rate.
i know when we went looking it was March of 08 and some halls offered very cheap plate prices if we were to book for the summer or early fall.... but we just weren't ready to do that.

You'd think but Villa can be a PITA as we've all come to know!

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this!
I know what the summer rates are there, and, well, they're vomit inducing. For a Sat night, you have to guarantee 175, Friday is 150 as is Sunday. 100 For Sat afternoon and like 85 I think for Sunday afternoon. Pricing is variable, but definitely well over the 125 mark for evenings on Fri or Sat. Good luck on Tuesday and keep us posted!

Re: possibly changing our date
I totally hear you!! Originally my wedding date was 10/19/08. My FH's mother suddenly had a brain aneurthym and was hospitalized for 2 months - the kicker was that she had no medical insurance. So my FH had to move back to his mothers, pay all her bills etc. and we had to postpone the wedding. Luckily my RH was kind enough as well as my floristsand photgrapher to allow me to change my date and keep my contracted 08 rates for 09. In this time of struggle, i think that your vendors should be able to help you out. Being in the hotel industry, I know we are making many exceptions for rates, pricing etc. If anything keep in mind that holiday weekends, friday's sundays are always cheaper and the guarantee is less as well. Good luck!

Re: possibly changing our date
i wouldn't think that way just yet (about them charging you more)- considering the economy they may give you a break and keep it the same for you... also, if you're thinking april/may- the rates are still reasonable!!! personally, i think you'll be fine!!!
