I have two aunts that are both breast cancer survivors and both had to have double mascectomys(sp). since this is october and breast cancer awareness month i just wanted to mention them

My mom is a survivor... double masectomy and reconstructive surgery in 1995. And my aunt is a survivor as well.

What scares me the most is my mother went in for a yearly check every year and never had anything detected. One year her skin around her armpit area looked strange, so she went to the doctor. They did a mammogram and found a lump. A test of the lump came back negative. But, this doctor did a random tissue sample test around the lump - something most doctors did NOT do at the time. Turned out the tissue surrounding the lump was canerous - a type that is so rapid that by the time it DOES appear on the mammogram, it's too late. My mom is so lucky.

Bernadette Patitucci, my mother passed away april of '03 from breast cancer, this horrible disease that I do not wish upon anyone.
