I went to the Post Office today to mail out my invites and the first PO I went to said they would cost $1.05 to mail. I had a feeling they didn't cost that much. So I went to another PO and they told me $0.61 (which is what I figured they cost). So I had a dilema. Which one was right? So I went to a third PO and they said it cost $0.61.
So the moral of my story is don't trust the Post Office. I can't believe the first PO was soooo off on the cost. And when I asked her if they could hand cancel them, she told me 'no, we're not allowed to do that'. I asked if I could cancel them myself and once again she said 'we're not allowed to let you do it'. The PO that I mailed my invites out at said that was ridiculous and that the girl was just being lazy. So if they tell you they can't hand cancel them don't believe them. Ask to speak with the Post Master.

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
What do you mean by 'hand cancel' them?? I'm confused! Glad you found the right postage though, that' so odd.

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
Hand cancel means that they stamp the envelopes manually instead of putting them through the machine. Sometimes if the invites go through the machine they can get messed up.

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
I had the SAME thing happen to me! one PO said 61 and one said 82 and then I went to a third that was the 'main' PO for my town and they said well some may be 61 and some may be 82! Because not all were the exact same width due to shifting of all the pieces. (when they slid them through that card w/ the slot in it some fit and some didnt, not sure if they did that with yours?) So they told me it was my choice but if I dont put 82 cents some might come back ! So I just put 84 on them and called it a day!

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
That happened to me but I went to the main post office and paid 61 cents. I was nervous because some people said it can cost $1.00 plus. Always ask for the wedding stamp which can be 54 cents or 61 cents.

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
This is nuts- I cant believe there was such a difference in price. If you sent them out at the first PO you would have wasted a ton of money- Good thinking to check out a few PO's. Good think to keep in mind =)
But congrats on sending them out.

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
I had the same problem! 3 post offices 3 different prices. Also my local post office said they didn't hand cancel-asked a supervisor to do it and it was fine! So stressful!

Re: Post Office Vent (a little long)
uh that's so annoying.... my company has a mailroom so i used a postage scale to weigh mine and then I did my own...
just a tip-- if you have square invites there will always be a $0.20 surcharge because they're non-meterable (which means they need to hand-cancel them anyway).
