Post: Pictures of your favorite wedding dresses or bridemaid dresses

Hello All:

I figure this thread has not been started yet and that it would be helpful.

I see dresses everywhere but it is so overwhelming.... I can't decide on a style. Do I want halter, a-line, heart shaped, tight fitting, short, long, big or small.... ivory or white.....

It's just too much..... I don't want to go to the bridal shop and spend the entire day trying on the full inventory,.... I would like to have an idea of what will work for me and what I would like.

If you felt the same way during your search for a dress, please provide advice on how you got through it.

This is my dress. I have to say I dont think i would have picked it out from looking at it in a pic. But once I tried it on I fell in love with it. I would tell you the same, try on various styles and youll get the idea quickly what you like or not. good luck!

Yes, it can be overwhelming at first. I suggest going through some designer Web sites to get an idea of what you want. But go in with an open mind. Try on a few dresses of different types. Like the pp, I wouldn't have purchased my dress if I had just the pics to go on. In fact, I bought a pretty different style than I thought I was going to.

Don't worry, you won't need to try on every single satin mermaid gown with a halter top (just using this type as an example) to realize you don't want that kind of gown. Ruling stuff out gets easier, which will help you focus on the type of dress you do want.

Perhaps bringing in a trusted friend, your MOH, or mother could provide a supportive yet truthful eye. Keep the number of folks who go in with you small at first, just to limit the opinions to a manageable number. Good luck and have fun.

my dress when it gets fitted and all put together it will look better and it looks alot prettier in person

When I first started looking, I went onto the Maggie Sottero site and looked at almost every dress. I wrote down the names of the ones I liked which contained many different styles. Then I went to Lillettes and the bridal consultant (Geri) picked out about 15 dresses for me to try on based on the dresses I had picked from the site. Not all of them were Maggie dresses, but they had similar feels to them and then she also threw in some ones that looked nothing like the ones I had picked in order see if perhaps I would like something I had not originally thought I would have.

Here is the dress I eventually picked. Lots of details. It is by Rena Koh. Not a vendor you hear a lot about but her dresses are gorgeous!

I'd say go the first time with a totally open mind and try on all kinds of dresses. I tried on EVERYTHING at my first appt regardless of whether i 'knew' i would hate it and sometimes i was surprised with what i liked or didn't like.

In the end I was able to narrow it down a lot, and a lot of the things i realized i liked or didnt like after trying them on.

As for BM dresses, I was set on a color but not much else. Would have gone with strapless, but my BMs fell in love with a dress that looked amazing on them while shopping for my dress, and the BM dress came in a color I liked so we went with it.

I ripped out pics from magazines that I liked and organized them in a binder- took that binder with me to the bridal shops and that really helped!

I highly recommend you got to a bridal store and try on dresses. Before I went I wrote down about 10-15 different dress styles, strapless, halters, etc. and after trying on all of those dresses, the one that looked the best on me and which went with my skin tone was a dress I would have never thought of purchasing. My dress was ivory and gold. You really need to try them on to see if white will be too stark on you and to see what type will fit your body the best.

Thank you everyone!!!! This is really helping. The dresses you've posted are so beautiful. I'm thinking that my MOHs will be the one with me on that day...... my mom's taste is not mine.
